Hi,
I'm promoting a health product with my website and I'm getting around 1500 visitors every month to it.
The problem is I'm ranking for the wrong keyword: "product name free download"

It's due to a pdf file I'm offering for free download on my website.
I've made the pdf just to get the traffic closer to buying, but unfortunately it's not converting and I still don't rank for profitable keywords.

Is there any way to monetize this traffic?

Build a list through your free download and then promote other similar health related products via e-mail

so many possibilities, newsletter mailing list, message board with accounts pushing your product, the idea is, if people are looking for that pdf, they already have something on their mind and something they want. If you can find a way to make it worth the while for them to pay for it, they will.

Do you guys know of any plugin that locks the file until they subscribe?

The may come for a free download, but if you write the website (pitch) well enough, you'll get some of them to buy it. However, the best way would be to get their emails, and then you can mail them offers.
Of course you could also add adsense ads to the page.

I've put a nice pitch in the landing page but have made only 3 sales in 3 months so it's nothing.
90% of the traffic leaves the site in 30 seconds, only 40% of the traffic are downloading the file and most of them exit immediately after.
I'm worrying that If I force people to opt in this percentage will drop a lot.

Obviously your pitch is not actually that nice then, eh?

Hit them with a HUGE adsense block above the fold. At least they'll have links to use to leave your site and you'll get paid. :)

Someone was promoting a content locker here on the marketplace a while back. Any way, most CPA networks offer some kind of content locker, I know AWM does have a locker for their offers....

I think I'm gonna go with an opt in and build a list, it's more beneficial for long term. My problem is to get people to subscribe, right now from some reason only 40% of the traffic to that page are downloading the file, I have no clue why it's so low.
If I put an opt in instead, this number will drop a lot, eh?

Why do you worry whether or not less people will download your pdf? How much money are you making right now with 40% of your traffic downloading a free pdf compared to the potential long term profit of having just 1% subscribe to your list?

Edit: If you want to test it out then companies like aweber and mailchimp will help you collect e-mails, e-mail them the offer after subscribing, and allow you to send bulk e-mails to your list.

What I would do is the list building. Work on a a Auto Responded follow up email. Finally what I would is find some free lessons on copy writing.

My main problem with an autoresponder right now is it's not cost effective for me.
Aweber wants $19/month and I'm not sure I can return that investment for now.
Mailchimp is free but I understand they close your account if they find out you're an affiliate.

You should use sharecash. You can make good money with a lot of traffic.

Alternatively you could use content locking.

Best of luck mate.
