A Complete Idiot's Guide to On Page Optimizations for your Website (Newbie Guide)

I usually roll my eyes when I see someone's take on SEO, so many people think SEO is backlinks. Even when they talk about on page, they have no idea what the hell it involves, or they minimize its importance due to their own ignorance.

In fact, there are very few people I will bother with even reading their onpage seo posts.

Your reputation precedes you though, so I though I would see what you were dishing out, to see if your rep was deserved, and I wasn't sure what I was going to read.

I was very pleasantly surprised with your post, and although i think you left out a few important points, this is by far the best post about on-page SEO I have seen on BHW.

Well done sir! I see your rep was earned, not given.

Thanks! Please do let me know what i left out.

Another great thread with lots of amazing information by Taktical. Keep up the great work mate!

Thanks and +rep added!

I have questions regarding H1 tags: Whats the bad side of using more than one H1?
And what if my content is around 1k words long, can I use more H1 in that case?

The simple answer is that you should only use one H1 tag on a page.

However, depending on your level of HTML expertise, it IS actually possible. If you use code to "Section" the webpage into multiple parts, you can actually pull off multiple H1s. However, you would be weakening the targeting of that page's SEO.

Heres a video showing matt cunts discussing how to do multiple H1s : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIn5qJKU8VM

About H tags, if I have like "ways of losing fat" as H2, and there is sub example in the content "method #1" So do I tag it as H3? If so, can I use H2 again for the later part of the article? Thks

Tak, I was wondering if you can make a guide this week for keyword research? This guide definitely helped me out just when I thought I had it pretty squared down. Thanks.

As long as your H tags are in order, you're fine

BassTrackerBoats has an awesome thread on keyword research you can look into.

thanks for sharing your knowledge with use mate.
very detailed and very very precise, everything you said above is a MUST for starting a website, blog/commercial/every kind of site.
if u allow me to add somethings which are not that important, but big G considers in rankings (always in page seo)
add favicon next to title, it makes your site more friendly and user experience gets better if the visitor opens multi tabs, he will know by the favicon which tab is your site.
also (based to my little experience) big G gives a good impact to authorship. dont forget to add your G+ author to your site, it makes your page more trustfull, and always pick a pic where the person is well dressed and nice haircut, it will attract visitors and visitors have impact on SERP.

Thanx again for great share.
rep added because you deserve it.

best wishes.

Totally! Good adds!

Can you write up more about setting up authorship?

Another great thread on BHW. You guys on here really are the dogs bollox.

Thanks OP

Great post. Lots of people are focused on just keyword density but LSI keywords are also important. Having them within your text will add more trust signals to Google. Great resource for noobs and refresher for the advanced.

This was a great step-by-step method to get my on-page optimization in a better place. In addition, Ilan's been able to answer some additional SEO questions on Skype. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. :)

Thanks for the kind words man!

Spoken like a true prodigy. Thanks for putting this up!

it doesn't matter how awesome the links are, if your on site optimization sucks you might as well pack in your shit and call it quits.

Thanks for the post!

Quick question, does H1 font size matter? What if stuck the H1 in the "bread crumbs"
