Looking to build a home server box for scrapebox, senuke, misc tools

Processor - dont go for AMD if you will buy new. Amd use 2x more electricity than intel so your bills will be high.

My advice is to get i7 and at least 4sata disk in raid0.

Hard disk is important but you dont need 4 sata drives in raid 0. Raid 0 = fast disk but your data is not secured. Go for 2x 500gb sata raid 1 (mirroring so your data will be safe) = smal ssd for all seo programs. Create backup of critical files from ssd on sata drives.

scrapebox, senuke, and other tools 24/7?
Other tools? 30mbps will be fine for scrapebox, senuke but can be not enough if you want to add lets say gsa.

Windows Server 2008 seems best for this, right?
Nope its not good for seo tools because you cant instal many free antiviruses and vpn install is sometimes problematic.

The AMD 950T 3.4ghz 4-core processor should be more than enough, right?
Yes it will be ok. Dont buy now i7 processor or similar because your internet speed can be not enough for i7.

For 75$ monthly you can get xeon e3 (similar power to i7, 2x more power than your AMD) + 8gig ram + 100mbps port from volumedrive. Maybe it would be better solution.

Instead of Windows Server 2008, what should I use? I could probably just set up Windows with Remote Access.

I'm not worried about my internet connection, I'll probably just be using scrapebox/senuke/proxy goblin.

I appreciate your input ^.^

You probably don't want to hear this but just rent a VPS/dedicated. I've gone down the same road and it's not worth it even if you are not blog spamming. There is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth.

Thanks for your opinion man, but really, my mind is set on building a server to use at home.

And yes, there is a such thing as unlimited bandwidth. Time Warner Cable is NOT limiting my bandwidth. They tried this a few years ago in my state and got in a big mess. I've checked this 3 times in the past 24 hours.

I too rather have a home dedicated server rather than a VPS, what's the point in a VPS unless you live in a 3rd world country..?

I've got a 100mb line and unlimited bandwidth so it isn't really a problem for me.

First off make sure you got a decent connection, 30mb should be fine for one instance of either GSA SER or SENUKE running 24/7.

If your going to want an effective well worth dedi server than I'd suggest upping your memory to at least 16gig, don't bother with a graphics card, use Onboard to install everything and then install Teamviewer for remote connection.

You don't really need windows server os, windows 7 is fine, I'd look at some new CPU's and motherboards to make it a rock solid build.

Well scrapebox is gonna be using the 30mb download... it's the upload that will be used up on SENuke I feel like. So far everything runs fine with my processor, but I'll upgrade as I need it. And yes 100 percent on the memory.

As for the OS, I do want to turn it into a server, because I plan on programming a web interface for myself and my partner in crime to control this with. There's gonna be a badass setup once it's done, but it'll be a while for sure.

The more input I get from you guys, the more excited I get about this. I'm going to write a detailed report on everything I do and how I set it up.

and ... ?

I just did something similar for myself (seo stuff + home lan media center server), so I am interested :)

also interested with this but worry about the ISP banning my line to the world!

I wonder, is it possible to become the ISP? or somehow bypass them? I mean, how do those vps do it with bh software? They need an isp to connect to the internet right?
