Looking to build a home server box for scrapebox, senuke, misc tools

Does anyone have any experience building a home server that runs scrapebox, senuke, and other tools 24/7? I am very tech knowledgeable and I can put this together, I am just looking for some advice that would save me time and/or money. I'm hoping to use spare parts I have like a 950T AMD CPU, 8gb ram, etc.

- Windows Server 2008 seems best for this, right?
- The AMD 950T 3.4ghz 4-core processor should be more than enough, right?
- What software would help me most for managing the server, remote access, etc?

I'm not poor, I can afford good parts. I just don't want to spend money on stuff I don't need.

Prepaire your pc for games and having fun and get yourself a VPS, you can find cheap ones and you won`t get your PC full of viruses from the thousands of websites that you`ll visit to post.

Hmmm I didn't think about the connection much. I have 30mb download, 5 mb upload. I think I can get this to work for me.

And I'm not using Scrapebox to post spam, I use it for keywords, site lists for SEnuke, and misc data stuff.

30 mb is enough for home server, depends what amount of data you want to download / per sec

how many scrapebox connections you are going to use? i have some expierence in that field i am sure i can help you
your network card and router is a limitation if they are old / basic - for sure
but its still not a problem if you are going small

Its all about the bandwidth. Install w7 and use it with remote desktop

Windows 7 with team viewer works best for remote access. Avast for antivirus.
Get 1TB HDD RAID 1 if possible. Rest of the configuration looks ok.

Do you have any data download limits. My home connection has download limits and hence I prefer VPS or dedicated server.

Oh man, even with with 400 connections on scrapebox (btw. scrapebox sux for scraping (but its powerfull for other things of course, with addons and premium article scraper, mass translation and world replace its a machine) - go for Gscraper if you want to scrape, and get a proxy subscription (checkout proxygo username service, here on bhw - really recommended, about 1.5-3k google passed proxies per day, lifetime http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...-scrapebox-proxies-yahoo-google-scraping.html) you wont get more than 10mb/sec - 15mb/sec download, and yes you need windows server 2008,


When i am running GSA on 50 threads - downloading spammed to death blogs image comments, guestbooks etc it goes around 30mb/sec - sometimes up to 40-60
(66 links per minute + gsa captcha breaker).

You will better off paying for a VPS, it will be less hassle and you can get it set up in 24 hrs.
A home server for SEO tools is a nice idea and I too have thought about it in the past but after taking everything into consideration it is not worth it.
It is still worth doing for backup and testing purposes but if you want to run tools 24/7 then a VPS is the way to go.

For remote management, use VNC. If you use TeamViewer, your connection will route through their servers instead of locally, which would slow you down tenfold.

I can't really think of any tips you would need. It's pretty simple, setup the box, setup VNC, setup your tools.

If you already have a box at home might as well put it to use, I do this for small projects and it's not much of a hassle. Did have some issues with ISP calling up bitching about spam but whatever if you're not too concerned then do what you like. If you wanted to scale then yeah look at a VPS for sure. Is there a reason you guys are suggesting teamviewer/vnc instead of just putting to use RDP?

I will always have the option for a VPS... there's no reason not to try this, ya know? I'll try this, and if it doesn't work, I'll let you guys know why and I'll get the VPS

I got phenom FX-8120 and 32GB ram, with raid 0(sata3), and SSD drives. I run fedora latest + virtualbox. Everything is cool. My advice is to get i7 and at least 4sata disk in raid0. Disk usage is the biggest issue when you run multiple OS instances. I have been system admin and programmer for very long time. HDD and CPU is most important. 600 MB/s read/write spead is what you should have at least. But windows is just winblows...

You obviously forgot to read the fine prints with your ISP, trust me there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth.

Personally, I would never ever run any sort of bh tools on my internet connection 24/7. Only for testing if i was programming, but as soon as the bad boy was programemd it would go in a vps or dedi.

Personally, I'd prefer to use a non-U.S based VPS with a bunch of I.P addresses to use (in case they get "burned") - just in case any proxies do fail and my real I.P address is revealed. If you're still preferring to go the home-made route, I'd recommend you have a talk to a BHW member who knows a bit about networking (I did do a networking paper a couple years ago, but just passed) - and configure your setup so your credentials aren't revealed.

I just read what my ISP says about bandwidth, they tried to cap us back in '09 but it didn't work with their customers. This is what they say - "Currently, users have unlimited bandwidth usage."
