1. The 2 are not dependant of each other. While hashing uses the boxing to segment characters, boxing can be performed on its own, and the minimum width is the minimum # of pixels to consider a charachter and not some background noise.
2. derotate is just that, it deroates rotated isolcated characters. Its best used with larger characters.
3. pixels, degrees.
This will boil down to what you have selected and if you have CS set to solve unknown captcha types. If I recall, you are only sending a single captcha type in at a time. In this case you should only select the captcha needed and deselect 'let cs try to solve unknown captchas' from the settings menu.
It sounds like what happening is that your setting are like i mentioned and your sample set of your captcha is too small and resulting in some incoming captchas being detected as another type.

Theres no way in h .e double hockey sticks that X3 is outperforming X4. Please check the thread, the last few pages you'll see similar results and when saving captchas is tunred on for an audit, youll see how well CS X4 is doing.
