Keyword on domain, does it help at all on SEO?

If I buy a domain like this one for example >> www.yellowtaxi.com and I am interested on the keywords "yellow" or "taxi" or "yellow taxi" does this domain help me at all with SEO purpuses with this competitive keywords at all? Because say, that having keyword on domain is very important, is that true?

There is a lot of debate about EMD's at the minute if you can get one do it, if not go for something that looks nice/sounds nice with a similar subject.

Keyword in domain will boost your link-building effects for sure, if you're use this advantage properly.

The EMD Story is more of a myth then reality.
Plus there has been tons of sites which ranks brilliantly although not being an EMD.
I personally feel EMD or non-EMD both works wonder if you have good plans to work them wonder for you.

It's definitely helpful. I have a few domains that rank for their domain keyword without any anchor related backlinks at all. The only thing that might be said is that there isn't the super strong aiding effect it had previously.

Some of my earlier EMD's would rank top 3 without any linking. Now I am currently seeing #7 - 12 spots for very similar EMD's. So the aiding effect is there but from my tests it seems to be a little less strong now.

My own experience is that keyword in the domain name is only a small help - but it is definitely a real help. Since it's an important keyword, there are bound to be a lot of other relevance signals around that keyword on the pages of the site.
Then there's the user data possibility - keyword in domain name is going to draw user clicks, and that could indirectly help the site rank better, too.
