I'm fairly new to a holistic SEO approach. I have years of history in programming (PHP, RoR, Python) and design, and have always made it a point to add ALT tags to images and use rich keywords when doing the front end work, but I recently decided to launch an SEO company. obviously, I'm not launching right away - I'm taking time to learn - but I'm still not where I'd like to be. I recently went to outsource some link building on Fiverr, and I got some feedback I wasn't expecting. The seller told me that it would be pointless since it's a new site. I was shocked; I thought backlinks were great for new sites?

I then asked him what I should focus on if not backlinks, and he told me to focus on FB likes or, more importantly, Google + mentions. So I started looking into it, and several people that I read from were suggesting that Google + mentions were the best thing you could do for a new site.

I've come to truly respect the community here at BHW, and I was wondering if you would agree with these people? Is this the best thing for a new site?

Thank you

So, you decided to launch an SEO company.
Ok, thats good. But asking on forum will give you 20 answers and 20 opinions, more or less different. What you should do is to make 2 or 3 sites for testing purposes and test all theories that you see or hear and see what is working and how is working. It is longer run but definitely better to practice on your sites and not on client's sites.

About your question - for new site all is good but in smaller dosage. Do not blast it immediately with X backlinks, but diversify various links from various sources (in small dosage) and first 6+ month concentrate more on social media mentions/likes/shares etc

People always talk about social signals and what not, but I have been interested in how much likes and Google+ really help your site.

Social shares do indeed have positive effects on your website.

I wouldnt recommend outsourcing linkbuilding to fiverr though.. and I think you should wait a few years starting your seo company .. :P

As a software developer and SEO you have an unfair advantage over 95% of other SEOs.

Whoever sold you an idea on social mentions is a moron who doesn't know jack about SEO.

The best SEO for a new site is an aged domain redirection (or just using an aged domain in a first place).

PM me for a link to my blog with the detailed case-study (don't want to self promote as it pisses off a lot of self-proclaimed SEO gurus here).

Not sure who told you this Jacob.

Although many people say social signals help and I think they do but probably very little compared to how much help could high PR contextual links on high PR pages do.

You could get these in terms of blog posts or homepage backlinks. Either way works, many provide it as a service in BHW, it's not super expensive and is deadly effective.

So if you are going to setup an SEO company I strongly advise you base your main backlinking techniques around high PR links. Then some good quality web 2.0s as 1st tier, and blast those in the 2nd tier with whatever you got in you hands. GSA is a cheap option because it costs very little. If you got the hang of coding and all that computer stuff XRumer might be a solution for you too.

But again do anything but concentrating your SEO strategy around social signals, not saying they are bad, just saying they aren't half effective to real backlink building.

I completely understand that, and expect it. I enjoy hearing others' opinions, weighing them and then testing them. Just like I'll weigh your opinion about making test sites and testing the different theories. After all, isn't that what a community is about?

I appreciate your answer! Why is there a universal milestone set at 6 month with search engines? Is it just a way to play it safe since the site is new?

If you wouldn't recommend Fiverr, what would you recommend? Seeing as you believe I should wait a few years, which seems rather counter-intuitive, I would like to have a decent place to find other SEOs to outsource to (I understand BHW would be a good place for that).

Thank you Cash202. First, let me say that I truly appreciate your posts. I think you're brilliant.

With that being said, why do you believe I would have an unfair advantage over other SEOs with my developer background?

I have a couple older domains (6 years), and I will look into domain redirections.

I'll PM you after I reach 15 posts.

Thank you all!

Wow! Another truly insightful reply. :) I can't get over how helpful and insightful this community is.

I read the Beginner's Guide to SEO from SEOmoz, which gave me what I believe to be a good head start. They never mentioned that social signals were superior for new sites, which is why I found it strange when the gentleman on Fiverr told me that.

So thank you, Ranker. I believe with what you've told me on top of Cash's SEO blueprint, I have a good place to start testing.

Like I said, every post will be with different tips and advices, including xrumer !? on new site. So you have to judge yourself.
About 6+ month - no, it is not milestone, I put 6+ that means 6 and more month to be easy on everything with new domain, specially with heavy blasting. Tools are good and can save time but if you don't know what you are doing you can penalize the site easily.

I understand, TZ2011. And thank you. from what I understand with Xrumer, it's okay to use with a new site, as long as it's not a direct blast. The general consensus that I've gathered is that as long as I have 3-4 little sites that are fairly old and post an article with the link to my money site, I can blast the 3-4 little sites and my money site will be fine.

I'm not exactly sure how accurate that is, but I'm preparing to test it this week.

Old or new site, always is good to have buffer zone around it, tier 1 with very good quality, web 2.0 properties with original articles etc and to send GSA SER / Scrapebox / whatever backlinks to that first tier, never directly - at least until you know very well what you are doing and what impact will be on money site.

Here is my take on G+, If you need to have a page indexed fast and the spiders are slowly crawling your site then G+ will help index faster. I think it helps rank if you have more like 3k likes.

Wow really you outsourced your link building work to Fiverr? You've got to be kidding.

Yes holistic SEO is the key, and that means links of all kinds and to various pages, social signals etc. But going on social alone is a no go.

these likes that you are talking about are fb likes for the website?

What if the fb fanbook page has all the likes? Will this still help with SEO?

It is best to focus on both SEO and SMM. You do not just focus on SMM. SEO is still important and you need this to get ranked.

A small utility that will generate a flowgraph from x86 code -- similar to IDA's built-in funtionality -- which is capable of graphing non-contigous functions (as created by Microsoft's internal optimization tools). Includes full source and a pre-compiled version for IDA 4.20.

Are you talking about just using a 301 redirect here or building a new site with a link to your main domain? Just curious for my own site SEO

Google has all data of gplus. Do not buy google+s from somewhere. That will only hurt your site. Just try to make real google+s as possible as you can.

Yes of course . Google+1 and Facebook Shares play very important role for getting higher page rank for new site . I am also a web designer . For every website I took some social networking service from Adman4site, Priestly, Payalagrawal etc on Fiverr. They deliver very well organized service and their services are really effective.

Trying to game the system with social signals is just setting yourself up for the next PandaPenguinMonster3.0 whatever update. Google + is Google's pride and joy. I'd advise you not to muck around with that too much.

Links are absolutely important, but not from Fiverr. Generally there, you get what you pay for. Quantity and PR matter less than in the past; relevancy and link profile matter much more.
