Def been some algo shift. Although not related to SAPE, my cruddy blog has risen up from the ashes.

Glad I have not tried it on my site or any of my client's website.
But things not clear now if it was targetted to websites using SAPE links.

Noticed a drop and I never used any SAPE links. I am sure its some new Penguin or who knows a Dinosaur update?

just remember people like to complain so the majority of people who use sape probably won't comment here because everything is going fine with sape (which it is). its only the few that have ranking drops (based on other SEO factors) who will comment here saying SAPE is dying.
in my view the update was probably just a normal routine one, maybe focusing on sites that don't have very diverse backlink profiles and google has moved them down. IF you use ONLY SAPE then my guess is you might move down in rankings a bit because you don't have a diverse backlink profile.
my sites have just continued to rise after adding SAPE to my backlink strategy, you would be stupid not to. SAPE still has a few months at least before google will be close to devaluing it.

I work with ranking videos on Youtube. I have a lot of videos that I use similar methods for. They are all unchanged except for one......the one I have SAPE links on. It went from #2 to nowhere to be found.......unless you look for it on the videos search on Google. It is still #1 there. But the first video that shows up in the organic results is another one of my videos on page 4.
One of the things I read about SAPE was that Google would have a really hard time identifying the network because it wasn't really a network. So what if Google doesn't have the whole network, but they have some of the sites?
My guess is that they have identified certain domains as SAPE domains. Then they added something to the algorithm that gives huge negative points to pages with links on these sites. When that happens your rankings disappear. But there are still people using SAPE with undiscovered domains and thus are still getting link juice.
I'm hoping that removing the links will fix the problem.

a few months? jeez I would say years, Big G has known about this for 7 years or so and has been doing what it can to combat it during that time- so far net effect they are losing.
not knocking you, just pointing out obvious facts that sape has been around for a long time and to break down something that does not have an obvious footprint is not that easy, we are talking about thousands of hosting companies , millions of tlds, bejeez Big G would have to start again- there is nothing obvious about sape
This is from someone who is sitting on the fence, if it was an obvious network it would have been dead years ago
I have worked out my own plan based on data available and believe if used right it will still bring the cash home

I hope it will stay for longer than a few months and I think it will but I'm not a spam expert at google so have no chance of telling, but I don't see google being able to devalue them at all within a few months. Because SAPE has gone more "mainstream" google is paying more attention to it because it is now effecting (in googles eyes) a large amount of the SERPs (probable only like 0.01%), and because of this google will spend more of their time trying to fight it, it will take them time but I think they will devalue those links one day (hopefully in a few years or longer). there are many other networks like SAPE and if they don't become mainstream then they will probably out live SAPE, don't worry because black hatters are always a step ahead of google.

SAPE is a site where a webmaster signs ups and ads his site, then he gets paid for the links that get put on his site. optimisers can also sign up and buy links on other peoples site. SAPE has over 630,000 sites and a lot of them are high PR

I think you are right that Google won't be able to devalue them all within a few months. They don't have to. If they start penalizing some of the domains so much so that we lose rankings we are going to flee from SAPE......which I am. I'm guessing that most of the SAPE domains are great. But if they devalue some of them so much that it drops the rankings if you have them the whole deal does you no good.
Lets say they have 100 sites out of multi-thousands. Maybe I have only one link on one of those sites that Google has identified. They put so much link juice on that one domain that it makes it impossible to rank on page 1. With that tactic they don't have to discover all of them.
They will find more domains in the SAPE network over time.

Frankly speaking, just came to know about SAPE links and I am glad I did not know about it, my website is good and had improvements not fall.
