Do you even work out bro?

I know just the study youre talking about. It is all about muscle fatigue and thats why i burn out every time. Ive been telling my friends just that but everyones under the impression you have to lift big to get big. I only max on a higher weight day maybe once every couple months just to know. I vary my progression every work out so my body doesnt have a chance to adapt.

The way I lift has changed since reading of a Univ. of Michigan study that revealed to build muscle, it was not necessary to lift heavy, but to lift to failure. I used to do something called static contractions (google it) with really heavy weights, then I killed my back on a 1/4 squat one day. I only lift heavy now if I'm on a Smith machine, but I find it better to just lift at 75% max for as many reps as possible. I'm also getting into more explosive stuff and mixing in a bit of heavy bag drills. For fun, I throw one of these in to keep it interesting:

I've been lifting for about a year. My numbers aren't impressive and probably could be higher, but I don't really care. I'm happy with my progress, I'm no longer the skinniest dude in the gym.

5' 8"
162 lbs (All weights are rep weights, I don't bother with max)
Squats: 210 (Took some weight off of this to improve form)
Bench: 180
Deadlift: 245 (Only been doing this one for 8 weeks, lol)
OHP: 110
Row: 145

Solid numbers man we could lift together without switching plates all the time ha

Thats cool you chose to focus on good form, too many people go around saying its okay to sacrifice form for high weight, especially on dead lifts, those people are morons. Form is always number ine for me, otherwise your just cheating yourself

5'8, 460 pounds... and man, can I eat a mean pizza.

In reality, 5'8, 160 and training for the tough mudder.

Form and Focusing on the muscle contraction is the key. Along with proper nutrition, you are gold. Don't let anyone tell you different.

There is a place and time to compromise the form a little bit, but that usually comes at a later time.
