[DISCUSSION] Ethically dealing with multiple SEO clients on the same niche

Thanks for your oppinions :)

why you will tell your clients that you working for their competitors. If you will tell that then 99% chance that they will not hire you.

More than it being or not ethical, I think it will not be good for your business, because one of them may get pissed of, and that can harm your future business with other potential clients.

The way you can do this with less trouble, is to tell them exactly what they will be getting from your service, ie you pay me x amount, and I will build x amount of links on x amount of places. In that way if one gets better results than the other then they can't complain because it should be because they promoted their site more.

Ethics are always interesting because its subjective. Bottom line, we won't work for someone in the same niche in the same city. If it's a national niche, I have a different rate and they get the exclusive. This also helps with customer retention. They know that I won't work for a competitor unless they end the contract.

No one has an opinion?

No we don't because this is kind of a dumb question, no offense. You offer a service... as long as YOU do the same thing for each client and give them all quality then it's not up to you to worry about who they are or are not competing with. Does a builder build a grocery store and then refuse to build another grocery store again because they might compete with his past client?

I've had this issue come up before and I decided that SEO isn't based on niches, it's based on keywords. Given how important it is to be #1, I wouldn't think it very ethical to deal with 2 companies for the same keyword, but two companies in the same niche with different keywords is perfectly fine and non-competitive.

That seems a valid approach to me also. Make an agreement for keywords and not niche but in case you get two tough competitors in same niche and almost same keywords, leave the 2nd one and stick to 1st client only.
