[Penguin Update] Stop Using Exact Match Domain Names

I have just done a batch of emd's and 8 out of 13 are ranking well already. (Two weeks) I don't see how true this post is. I am doing quality on page and off page SEO for all of them. The ones not really ranked well are of hard ranking keywords. The low to medium domains are doing well.

Same with me. I made my EMD website with 5 pages of great quality content and I'm already ranked at #8. I don't even have links built to my site. I know it's not going to drop either because there ain't no competition on google for the same words I'm using.

False!

My emd's are still ranking great as before and i even see more emd's in the top positions for some very competitive keywords..

But yeah, if people are looking to dump their emd's, let me know i will gladly take them off your hands :)

Had an EMD drop off the face of the earth after the initial penguin update... As of a week ago, it popped back up to number 4 (with no work on my part). I've added a new link building campaign to it to use more anchor text and generic link words, and it's now jumping between #1 & #2.

My EMDs still going strong

Just today received email from exclusivewordpress.com:- "[Penguin Update] Stop Using Exact Match Domain Names" -- how true is that?????????

Yes, the exact match domain names used to be a great way to get your website ranked for that particular keyword phrase such as "website-design-company.com".

Not anymore, it's now much harder to convince the Penguin that your site is not spam. The solution is to focus on BRAND-ABLE and UNIQUE domain names.

Read what the gurus said about this matter:

"Oh and for the most part "Exact Match Domains" are history. There are some exceptions of course, but unless they are a .com and have AGE and SIZE, they have been pushed back into the nowheresville just for being an EMD."

"This time EMD's [Exact Match Domain] has got hit i.e. most of the domain containing exact keywords have got penalty. Most probable reason of penalty is link building structures these websites are using. Since this website contains main keyword with their domain name, hence link building is done with same anchor text."

Right now, what we need to quickly rank a new site are AGED domain with GOOD PageRank (read: an old domain with authority).

I see exact domains still ranking #1 - #3 on google as we speak. If that is completely true why are they still up there after panda/penguin?

IMO this is absolute BS. Mine are alllll fine.

Looks like hes trying to hog the good EMD's for himself ;)

not entirely true, while one of my EMD is nowhere to be found, the other is already ranking number two in SERPs after ranking 6 within two weeks of work, and most likely because it is an EMD for the exact keyword. tho it is a good idea to go with unique and brandable domains for the same niches incase. which i'll be doing after realizing that you can have a unique name and the EMK in title of content/article, still will rank well, as long as content is unique and pro.

that's true, think about these
"domain name = keywords", when it was born, it will be sentenced as suspectable link-building.
I have 20+ websites, 3 of my EMD domain got hit as unnature backlinks, but all my websites are unnature backlinks.
why only the 3 got penalized? Absolutely EMD with unnature backlinks.
So EMD have more risk.

My EMD is ranking on first page of my main keyword. So i think it s not because of the domain name but it is how you do link building.

Some people put things out of context. Google does not penalize EMDs. The quality of the site is what ruins it. EMDs will always be a plus.

Thanks maddy that is the RIGHT answer in a nutshell!

EMD are still doing OK. Although mine has been penalized. You just need good quality links.

Wtf is wrong with people? Do you believe everything randoms says on the net? You need to look for sites such as Seomoz who do extensive SEO researches. EMD sites still rank as before, those randoms are misinforming people to get more space to snap the good domains.

had an authority site with 1.6k pages go from position 1 on a 10k/month exact search to position 90
on the 27th of last month, and it's like rolling a stone uphill to get it back
all because it was exact match

I'm actually happy if this is true... Several EMD's deserve to have their butt spanked, and several legit sites needed to strive harder to rank. But, it's not really a penguin/panda issue.. as others have pointed out, an over optimization either onsite or offsite

I have EMD .com domain that is just 1 month old, and it is already ranking higher than the original product website for the term: (nameofthegame) download

I only have one backlink from my own PR3 website, and it's anchor is that term. Domain is that term, page title is that term, and keywords are that term.

When I just created website, it was ranking on the second place. Then, it went to 5. page, and now for the last 4 days it's on the top #1 place :)

Come on guys, this doesn't mean EMDs are worthless. EMDs would still be great as long as quality is maintained. Thats a different story if you are trying your luck with EMD + Spammy content.

Don't care what these say, i'm still registering EMD's, and still hitting top rankings for all my sites. Penquin didn't hit EMD's in my experience.

I have some that stayed on top with EMD and others that lost.

It has nothing to do with EMD you just need to have a good SEO strategy. If you got hit by P it's not cuz of your EMD!

Life is too short for anger!
