What other solutions? A business is looking to maximize its profit, $0.40 may not be enough for you, but it clearly is enough for them since they ACCEPTED that rate. OP is _NOT_ forcing anyone to work, all big companies are outsourcing their work to Asia, why don't you guys complain to Apple that their workers are killing themselves because of their conditions? Also what kind of shoes are the hypocrites wearing? Maybe Nike? Maybe Adidas? All have been made by so called "slaves" yet the hypocrites complain that the OP is doing slavery, which is hilarious. If i can save one fucking cent then I am gonna do it, because that one fucking cent will become much more within the next years.
Umm, you clearly have no understanding about currencies.
Firstly the ($) only refers to the dollar, so it shouldn't be listed against 4 of the 5 currencies. You seem to think that $0.01US will buy you loads of things in these countries.
So what if $0.01 exchanges to 208VND? A bottle of water at the shops in Vietnam costs about 5000VND.

I Don't really see anything wrong with this as long as the worker is happy to be paid that much. If you can find a worker for such a low cost and the worker is happy then you should take advantage of the opportunity.
I've hired a few workers in the past, never anything as low as that. The lowest I've gone i the $2 mark even then though I thought it was pretty low. but 0.4!? Darn!

Look at big companies (walmart, etc) they pay employees in third world countries the lowest possible amount they can get away with. I've heard as low as 8 cents an hour US before (for grueling factory work).
My position has always been that if they weren't so fuckin greedy they could pay $2-$3/hour, improve the lives of these employees, and still make a HUGE Roi. Its greed thats the problem. Yeah you can get away with paying someone somewhere a sickeningly low amount, but if your making a huge return you should have a little heart and pay them something more fair. End of story.

Internet ranges from 500,000.00 VND to approx 2.5 million VND per month.
Average salary in Ho Chi Minh City and other big cities is around $200-$300 USD / month so at $0.4/hour and 8 hours per day the OP would pay a whooping $96/month for a full time job.

We operate an outsourcing company in the Philippines (one in the metro and two provincial sites) and we could not get people for this amount even if it is work at home.
What we learned with this low wage work at home employees is that what they do is they create a lot of accounts in freelancing websites then one person accepts more than one job. So the 0.04 cents might be one person faking to do 10 or 1000 jobs at the same time. Its mostly a scam using cut and paste to create articles and using bots to pretend to be working.
They can record a video then feed it to a remote desktop viewer.

Dude clearly you guys must be illiterate or unable to understand the post. Common Sense will tell you that $0.01 USD will not be able to buy you anything in other country. How is my math wrong? Did I ever say anything about $0.01 buying you stuff or anything. I never say anything about $0.01 buying you anything. I just say it depend on the country and economy. I was just doing a conversion as 1 cent. Yes I know the $ is for USD. But if you read it I also say in KRW, VND etc.
0.01 USD = $11.29 in KRW (South Korean Won)
0.01 USD = $208.05 in VND (Vietnamese Dong)
0.01 USD = $0.30 in TWD (New Taiwan Dollar)
0.01 USD = $0.82 in JPY (Japanese Yen)
0.01 USD = $0.43 in PHP (Phillippine Peso)
Anyway I am not going to argue. I never say that $0.01 will buy you stuff or anything. I just did the conversion and say it depend on the country and economy. Never say $0.01 can buy you water or internet service or whatever. Was just showing you the conversion of $0.01 USD into another country currencies. In first world countries like the USA, Canada or UK, no one would.
But I'm from a third world country and I can tell you that some people here are willing to work for as low as $0.75/hour. I've seen software developers working for $4 an hour and I'll tell you why they work for that low.
$4 = 350 Pakistani Rupees..
If they work 8 hours a day = 2800 Pakistani Rupees
And that comes out to be ~80,000 rupees a month and they don't even have to step out of their home.
While I'm not sure if the OP was truly hiring for $0.40/hour, I'm quite sure you can hire talented people for $1/hour or even less in some countries.
And to all those who're calling this slavery and all that... LOL! Read some basic business/outsourcing and you'll realize that finding people willing to work for LOW MONEY is what outsourcing is all about. OP is not forcing them to work, they're offering themselves... so whats the big deal?

internet is starting in the philipines at 30$ as far i know ...so they have to work over a week for that cost. but maybe they share it some how.
In general .. just ask what a teacher is earning there and dont take the prices in the big citys. This cheap phillipin workers are for sure from the south where the payment is low and hard to find a job at all.
All the guys paying ther VA through providers ... you dont think that the main part of this money is going to your Va. the most is kept by the provider and your Va will probably earn around the same what the tread opener pays.
i dont say that is good that there are so poor parts that people earn that amount but asia is growing and when the $ and the Euro crashes maybe the story will be different.
