Thanks this is really helping.

No problem.

A keyword that has nearly 1mil. competition will take you a min. 300 dollars to rank from my experience.

Its a medium keyword, its up to you if you want to give it a go.

Just give it a go and learn and take notes. In IM you have to be willing to test and lose money, thats the only way you will learn what works and what does not.

I am a very green newbie and I'm just trying to get familiar with the site. Is there a tutorial for greenbies like me?

Thanks in Advance,
sjhunt

Your response is very much appreciated.

The $300 you mentioned, is that for articles and back linking?

The new traffic travis has video tut. for all of its settings inside the program it self. Just play around with it for 5 min. you will figure it out.

Look, I found a keyword in google. It says it has low competition.
I opened Traffic Travis to check what it says.

I dont understand why its Medium difficulty. Can you please explain me?
The keyword doesnt have any EMD taken. I can choose NET COM ORG. Its like 10$ PPC!

Look at the pictures:

I dont know how to choose with Traffic Travis information.
What do you say about this results? Should I take it or its too hard?

I am totally new with SEO.

Thread still going strong after years! Learned a few useful methods to implement in my own keyword research. Thanks for taking the time to put this detailed post together!

I see alot of people include InAnchor: for KW research. Should I also be checking InAnchor: results for the keyword? If so, what's the maximum number results that's considered doable / relatively easy?

I dont check those numbers any more.

Just check the top 10 results (using market samurai or traffic travis).

And get the figure when you put your keyword in "quotes".

The lower that figure the better.

For newbies I would say go only after keywords with 50K-100K max. in quotes results.

The &start=990 tip saved me a lot of time! No more scrolling through the results one after another. Anyone know of a software tool that can just tell me right away how many search results pages there are on google?

Thanks. This post helped me a bunch. Now I can see why my keywords were all wrong.
