Probably one of the most valuable posts anyone can read.

The &start=990 tip saved me a lot of time! No more scrolling through the results one after another. Anyone know of a software tool that can just tell me right away how many search results pages there are on google?

Thanks. This post helped me a bunch. Now I can see why my keywords were all wrong.

Great walkthrough there, thanks alot.

Nice Tutorial.

YOUR WELCOME!

Glad to be of service!

:D

how many exact global monthly searches is good to begin with for a newbie like me?(an approximation)

Your welcome ...

its just a basic guide...

You can probably refine it and remove some parts of it.

The 2 Most important things for me right now are:

* exact number of searches

* number of competing pages in quotes (when you type the "keyword" in google) - I like to go after keywords with less than 100K competition and at least 1k searches.

-----

* And I take a look at first page to see who is ranking (if I see some EMDs in there then thats a good sign).

What is your favorite tool when researching keywords? Has anyone tried AHREFS?

IM eye is good but expensive...

I normally just use Google's free tool!

thx, finally after searching for hours on how you do a better KW research then i was doing this thing poped up. rly nice guide for newbs like me :). thank you!!!!!!!

lastly, to expand the length of your main keyword, use google suggest! if you are trying to target a specific location (probably cpa promotion) use trends.google

thanks op!

Wow, very useful information. But anyone tried Ultimate Niche Finder? Is it recommended?

Thanks for the info IamNRE! I'm pretty new to keyword research and I had a quick question:

Is a high Domain Age of competitors going to affect my keyword? I analyzed the top 10 competitors for a keyword i'm researching and there DA was around 10+ for every competitor, but the PR of every site is either 3 or 4. I guess my question is how much of a factor is Domain Age?

Thanks again for a great thread, it's been so helpful!

Question:

If inurl is 111,000 and intitle is 234,000 but inurl AND in title together is only 2,600 is that worth going for?

Should inurl and intitle AND both together all be under 30k to make it viable?

I would say look at the "keyword in quotes" only.

Sounds like a medium tough keyword, and unless it gets 10K+ exact searches I would leave it.

I'm a little confused about what's more important, inurl and intitle separately being under 30,000 results each or both together being under 30,000?

If in url and in title are both over 30k but together they are low, why is that not good? Does it not mean with decent SEO and time you could outrank them as the competition is not properly optimized?

I find this tricky.
