Megaupload has been shut down.

My Opinion (same like some other million people):

http://torrentfreak.com/megaupload-swizz-beatz-120120/

So. A Contentmafia is trying to get the goods until it's dying. Like dinosaurs.
Seems to be logical! But the time is over! Now!

There are tons of independent studios and artists, and they can't be shut down. And if MegaMusic would have launched with verified content only, then it would not have been shut down either.

You guys are double-sided liars! Watch your Karma!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN4llU46Xok

MU did the money from csing! BH at it's best!

So! You guys who say MU is an evil copyright pirate, has to fight
all One Click Hosters in the same way. What you did not!
Just look in the download section and tell me, which one of the
OCH isn't sharing copyrighted software/music & movies.

So you are all freakin stupid liars !
Just look in the mirror, you rotten leechers !

Hehe,... damn laws will be shutdown next.....

It's hard to make sense from your posts, so I don't quite understand what you mean by calling me a double-sided liar?

I'm against SOPA. I'm against government over-stepping it's boundaries and acting without the authority and approval of it's people.

I only support true liberty and freedom which is exactly what is being taken away more and more.

So why are the big companies whyning about pirated music with false losing winnings?
They are lost!

I appreciate everey independent music label. I hear non-'public' music since I was 15!
But I hate the concentration of power! So Napster was the first free software to share goods with people who likes the same music. That time was really mindblowing!

And there will be a mindblowing future! Believe me :D

Now it's time! c ya!

As others have mentioned, Kim Dotcom is a hardcore big dog computer criminal and fraudster who has tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars. They've been after that guy for a while. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Schmitz

What scares me is that they arrested him right here in here in NZ because the US asked them to! That's the bit that seems really fucked up to me.
Agree 100%

But people don't seem to notice this >> Only those who have dl/links or actually stored pirated movies/music are targeted, at least now. The smallest fish, 'copyright owner' writers(are they?), in the ponds like WF and DP aren't ever going to get any protection from Feds or authorities.

Punishing entertainment industry's pirates means more people going to the theaters, and also legally buying legit DVDs from the legit stores. Means more taxes in for the states. Means lessened overall national debt. Means an economical turnaround of sort -- however small it is considering the gigantic obstacle mountain it is now. Means renewed fear of US and its authorities (by 'commoners') which was diminished over the years. Means a lot of things! Overseas storage isn't safe either, US govt agencies will pressurize those governments to comply and shut down those sites, or else in the long run US will ruin them... The (once) BOSS of the world needs to control everything under and above the blue skies...

Just think how many more people would now go to the theaters, and how much more sales of music DVDs now. That's the plan, of course along with protecting the Hollywood paymasters' hides. Also, caught with downloading or in possession of pirated music movies means astronomical fines and jail terms... normal people aren't going to search for those downloads now, and possibly for a long time from now. Also, downloading pirated movies now is equivalent to picking up a fallen soap... that could be a lot painful compared to the pain of losing a few dollars and watching the good bad or ugly movies in the theaters... just like the good olden times!

I guess it's going to be very hard for the top DL sites / Pirates of Hollywood's intellectual property, whether they store the actual stolen material on their servers or not; and may be it will be hard ramming only for them by the authorities, ATM.

Just my thoughts...

Maybe I took you in the row of 'SOPA-Supporters' who tried to play a big role in the thread. After some beers, I see, it was maybe my fault.

So sorry for the false interpretation! As a drunken non-english it's really hard sometimes :D

Keep cool! And fight for good music!

No worries bro.

As a musician myself, I'm tired of the fake music we get pushed upon us today and hope to help make a change in that one day myself.

Fight for good music; fight for liberty; fight for freedom.

FTW.:)

Bulllshit. Those who download will always download. Those who buy, will buy. Those who download/buy will download/buy and so on. Not everyone has the money to buy a new CD/DVD every week/month etc. Not everyone has the money to go to the theaters all the time or subscribe to paid channels. People download not because they need to but because they can. If they weren't able to, they would buy a CD/DVD every now and then, watch that film in the theater every now and then. Maybe bullshit wasn't the right word and I shouldn't of used it in my reply but I hope you get the idea. These days with access to the radio, TV channels, online media sites like YouTube, people listen/watch things before they buy it, if they like it, they will buy it, if they don't, they will not. All of these media channels give people the chance to view the product before deciding on whether or not they should purchase it and that's one of the main reasons CD/DVD sales, etc, are falling down compared to the years where piracy wasn't as global as it is nowadays. Obviously piracy does it's own job which lowers sales, but I can't fully agree with your reply.

Guess I've been under a rock lately. These guys live down the street, like literally just minutes from here. Unreal. Seen the cars around with the plates and the big fella, had no idea who they were though.

You never know when your neighbours are the biggest blackhat guys in the business.

I hope FB and YT also get shut down. Then i would like to see people face who defends shut down of MU because i really do not see any difference between them. YT up-loaders and YT makes money from copyrighted content via ads. Facebook also makes money from ads via displaying or sharing copyrighted content. Totally same.

I fully agree that you can agree to disagree. :)

In my place, and it is on the other side of the planet if you're in US -- hawkers & DVD libraries have already stopped storing / selling / renting pirated DVDs since about 6 months back. They had to after some sellers got fined in lakhs of Indian Rupees for keeping / renting 'copies' of latest blockbuster Bollywood movies. They are shit scared now -- all of them. The entertainment piracy, offline at least, is dead in my region. And of course, the Multiplex theaters here are running full houses now, almost all shows and most of the time. College students are bunking classes and are seen in theaters :), that reminds me of my own college days!

Online piracy of movies is going to stop soon at least in my land and the Bollywood industry is working hard on achieving it; what with your IP and MAC addresses are being logged and registered for near-future appropriate use by authorities... people who know these things aren't downloading as much and like as before... AND that's a FACT!

What's happening is good for some, bad for some...

Again, just my thoughts. ;)

P.S.:
One more thing, students are buying the legal DVDs, only one piece and are then either circulating that DVD or are distributing home-made copies among themselves. So there are going to be smarter people around all the time. :D

Maybe you're right, maybe I'm wrong. I was sort of expressing my thoughts but now that I've read my post I would have probably rewritten it a few times. Either way this topic can be discussed forever and there will always be something to add. :)

The where MEGA stupid according to reports:
"Although the company is based in Hong Kong and Dotcom lives in New Zealand, some of the alleged pirated content was hosted on leased servers in Virginia, and that was gave U.S. prosecutors jurisdiction to act."

Sorry to tell you this... but this is not true.
Here in the states, piracy ran rampant too.
Then people got fined and put in jail... and it practically stopped cold.
There are still some small time peddlers copying shit and staying under the radar.... copying and sharing with their friends mostly... but piracy has gone down tremendously.

People are actually going and either paying to see the movies or buying the movies.

Most people talk a lot of shit.
They say fuk the government and their laws... I will never stop pirating ...
but when you see people go to prison for years....
the bullshit stops... and so does the pirating.

My cousin sister has a bad habit... whenever we family sit around to watch a good movie on telly, this girl comes and innocently breaks the suspense in advance! :D

That quickly empties the hall with everyone cursing her for making them lose their interest in the movie...

Now you too can do the same to retaliate if your niche happen(ed) to be movies. ;) On your new niche site (Suspense-breaker), do it in such a way that people would come to your site in huge numbers just out of curiosity! People love to hate the suspense-breaker, but they are the most eager ones to know in advance about how the hero saves his girl and the nation -- in the end!

Sorry but Virus1 is either trolling or not very bright (no this is not an insult I will say why below).

He claims that there was good maths which suggests that megavideo costs the entertainment companies $500 million, that is incorrect, if it's not on megavideo, then you check another website. Anyone smart enough to find copyrighted materials on megavideo, can find it on other websites.

Also you seem to say a lot of lies about living near well known Mafia and having guns in your house, you act like an ethug somewhat, it's not a good image to have.

You illegally downloading WSOs then trying to use the shield of "Well herp derp they have a money back promise" - The thing is, your logic is still flawed, the means you use to get the WSO is still illegal.

If Megaupload has been taken down then other websites will fall too -
Rapidshare
Mediafire
All torrent websites
P2P networks such as limewire and the such.
Quite a lot of porn websites.

please do not be like "well megaupload man bragged about it" - That is irrelevant to the act he was committing sorry to say.

hahahahaha. I am probably not very bright because trolling is against TOS of BHW.

I said that they extrapolated the loss, which is a valid method for the court. They have done that before for other cases and it has stood in court.
The rest of your statement about finding it on other websites makes no sense to me. I do not understand the relevance.

Also you seem to say a lot of lies about living near well known Mafia and having guns in your house, you act like an ethug somewhat, it's not a good image to have.

If you can fly to Laredo.. I will meet you there and introduce you to these people. I am a lot of things... but a liar is not one of them.

The fact that I have rifles not guns... AK47 is an assault rifle not a gun, should not be a problem. They are all legal. In the US , I have the right to bear arms. It is all legal bro.... so chill.

And about my image.... do not worry about me... just take care of your image. I am a big boy.. i can take care of myself.

You illegally downloading WSOs then trying to use the shield of "Well herp derp they have a money back promise" - The thing is, your logic is still flawed, the means you use to get the WSO is still illegal.

I mentioned it more than several times....I never said I was a white angel.

I explain what I do when it comes to WSOs.
I never said it was right. In fact... I stated that it was wrong... go read all my post before you respond to them.

You are right about these sites being brought down... if they do not clean up their act.... all of them will eventually fall.

and about megaupload... I said that they made it easy for the FBI to take them down..... they wrote it on their emails that they were aware that the pirated content was on their network. They also wrote that they were not taking content down even after being served with C&D notices.

That was dumb.

They were distributing without a license. If the royalties for providing each song in UMG's catalog costs $.10 and you provide 1,000,000 downloads from their catalog then they have $100,000 in lost revenue from royalties. With the amount of storage they needed they were easily pushing millions in downloads each week of songs, movies, books etc.

The higher an item's MSRP the more money its going to cost to legally distribute it. $500 million may be a good estimate of the amount of lost royalties.
