What is Panda after?

moonpromo, those are some pretty consistent drops.
Care to tell us exactly what you're doing so we can compare results to help us figure out what Google is penalizing?

I had my 3yr old website ranking #1 for 5 keywords, all with 3-5 million results. They were ranking for 2yrs. Suddenly they all dropped to the bottom of page 1-3. Traffic dipped, but I'm not going to change anything I've been doing - I'm confident it's just temporary.

same. just dropped on one of my sites for 40 keywords over night. The drops weren't anything like 1st page to not even found. A lot of them dropped to page 2 but I don't have to tell anyone that means a huge loss in traffic. Hope we all figure out whats going on soon.

What I don't get is why my local sites don't get hit and it is always the adsense sites that get affected. I have local niche sites targeting keywords "dentist city" and these sites show no effect even with same backlink strategy. It is always these sites that are product based or consumer driven that gets targeted.

I've mentioned this several times but no-one bites.I believe your sites OBL's are certainly becoming a factor.

I'm starting to think this whole thing is turning into middle school according to who is the most popular with people. Not the links kind of popular, but the social media kind of popular. Since Panda, I am higher up for my Facebook page than I am for my website using my good keywords which also happen to be in the name of my business, the name of my url, and the title of the site. That makes no sense. It was not that way before Panda. My Facebook page wasn't even in the top 1,000 for the same keywords (they are very competitive keywords).

Example: title: Black Hat World, url blackhatworld.com Search for black hat and the Facebook page for Black Hat World is pages before the site. Then sites that don't have the words black hat in the url or the title even come up higher. (I made all this up for an example) How could that be? I looked around to see who is before me, and they have tens of thousands of Facebook followers and are very popular on all the social media sites. It wasn't always this way. You could have good position if you worked hard enough on your site. I'm in a very competitive field. This is getting ridiculous. If they want popular, I will give them popular.

What do you mean by outbound links? I have like 1 outbound link on my local dentist site and 1 on my adsense sites as well. Can you expand on what you are saying? Are you referring to the OBL's from sites/pages that we have links on?

I am product based and consumer driven and my site has become a train wreck since Panda.

ok so here is something thats absolutely amazing. the total crap sites with 2-4 pages that are made for adsense are now ranking top along with Squidoo and other social sites for the words I was top for. I can understand the Squidoo but the shitty made for adsense sites? that have 4 pages of total garbage content ranking top? Now thats kinda insane to me

maybe google is putting all these crap sites to the top to test the traffic and note the "bad quality" signals of these sites and then implementing them into their panda update. They need to figure out what they don't want so that they can have their pet panda seek out other sites in the future with the same qualities. Just my opinion. (Kinda like the way google used data from their user blocked sites to generate data about bad quality signals)

Edit: I just noticed that *my* shitty sites which I have abandoned months ago are now ranking! lmao

I am seeing the same thing regarding social sites. How in the heck is my Facebook page going higher for good keywords than my site is? Oh and Google Analytics says that I don't get sales on my site when I do. I'm deleting the account because that is irritating me.

I'm wondering what constitutes a drop of say 3-5 spots vs dropping like 7-10 spots. I've noticed some sites (not mine) that were ranking #1 for their main keyword drop to only #3 while others ranking #1 drop to bottom of page 1 or even top of page 2.

I think from my bunch of sites only 1 site only dropped 1 spot which was from #3 to #4. Others range anywhere from 5-10 spots.

Another thing I've noticed is that my sites that did drop it dropped for it's main keyword and most of them are EMD for that keyword as well. The rankings I had for other keywords for a site whether on the first page or pages 2-3 seem to have maintained. It hit the homepage for the main keyword that the site was optimized and ranking for. For example if the site was previously ranking #2 for "bluesmall widget" now the homepage is ranking #8. Before when the site was ranking #1 for "blue small widget" it's still ranking #1 for that term.

Another observation I just noticed on one of my sites is that certain internal pages kept their rankings while others lost ranking. The internal pages were on similar topics except the first word was different...so for example "blue widget coupon" "yellow widget coupn", etc. Only 1 of them maintained it's rankings on the 1st page while others that were ranking somewhere on the 1st page before got pushed back to pages 2-4.

But one thing I do know is for the internal page that kept it's rankings I had built and was building backlinks to it more aggressive then the others. I don't even think I had done any backlinks to the those that lost rankings except that they were ranking just with on-site SEO. So that might be an issue for their drop in this time around.

I've been seeing squidoo lenses all over the place too. Maybe it's time to build some lenses while our sites recover.

Google seems to be bringing all the sites that they destroyed to the top of google. Now is the time to ask yourself why they might be doing that. It seems ppl are just looking for ways to recover rather than understanding what google is doing

I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing as if nothing is happening in the serp. I got a hunch that my sites will be back to where they are after this mess is over.

My guess: Google is studying how traffic interacts with these "shitty sites" so that they can use this data to find more sites that have the same qualities. I think the reason ebay, amazon, wiki and the other big sites are still up there is because they manually excluded these big well known authorities for their test to prevent uproars like with daniweb.

I think your on to something here...

my emd went from #1 to #4 and sitting at the top is a known scam website with no content just a landing page that doesn't have the main keyword ANYwhere.

Some logic in this. You might be right my friend I can see how this could be possible.

My news site got hit by hard. Traffic down 60%.
My case study site, lost 3 of the biggest keywords it was going for. Weird cause it was ranking in the 300's and yet google still decided they weren't good enough for the top 1000. Each article brand new with maybe 1 or 2 links and a social link, over 1200 words each. Optimized and everything....

Rest of the site is mixed, some keywords gone, some not affected at all..

I noticed one big thing after the update. For my main keyword there was 32.000.000 results before update. Now there is only 9.000.000 What happened to all the other results?? My site jumped up one spot then went back down. My competitor who had 3rd spot on front page is now on the bottom of 3rd page. Also there is a site that was not even on the 2nd page before update, is now the result above me. I noticed he has been running google ads for about two weeks so maybe that has something to do with ranking now?

Just sharing what I have noticed. Anyone else notice Keyword total results changing for their key?

In my case there are no shitty sites, but more like Amazon, Ebay, Nextag, and others that have now occupied most of the front page of the SERPs for the keywords my site used to ranking high on. So I don't understand where are you guys seeing these bad sites that are ranking because I certainly don't see them. A lot of my sites are product information and provides unique confirmation about them plus 1 Adsense block on each page.

Wow this EXACT thing has happened to me to! I have the thinnest site targeting buyer keywords. NO text, ONLY amazon affiliate links (kinda like a test site). This site has been lost since july this year.
TODAY it is ranking top 3 for every keyword. This is insane!! My other sites which are awesome with rich content are now ranking behind sites that don't even exist anymore and ALOT of random youtube links. The serps are a TOTAL mess from what I am seeing. Worthless sites are ranking through the roof.
I think (hope) what we are seeing now will only be for a couple of days.
