Even though I am royally pissed, lost a bunch of money and have angry advertisers who rely heavily on my traffic, this has been quite the experience watching everything unfold. I have learned a lot especially since I am the sys admin for a company with terabytes of important data. I currently have 2 backups: Drobo and the cloud. I intend on beefing this up with multiple servers.

I am also one of the morons that didn't do regular backup due to a false sense of security in hosting companies. I'm assuming the first thing everyone is going to do is backup their database and files as soon as they have access?

Haha yes. Big lesson learnt. If we were with another host and not backed up we may well have lost a lot!

buddy I know extrawinner more than 1 year. he is one of the best entrepreneurs i ever seen. all services that come from him are always top quality from biginer to end.

what happened with hosting i know that will not happen again. but I know too that a REAL hacker can f-ck any server he want.

yes you should allways backup your data. we all learn from mistakes ;)

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm still sticking with this host as this has been the only setback I've suffered for the two months (I know, not much) I've used it.

Thanks :)

Luckily we are covering backup thing, so no worries.
Due to past experiences data protection is for me #1 priority when it comes to BpSpace.com

do you know when NS5 and 6 will be live?

As soon as server will go up, so after upload.

Yeah, we always store data in 2 independent location for extra security.

Quick update -

We run through some larger files now, so this slowed down a bit - still around 80%.
AFAIK when we hit 90% it will be quick ride, as all files are small - few KB in size.

Hi Guys.
I see some of is trying to log in to Cpanel/Admin for your site - please be patient - this is just slowing down whole process and can get your account corrupted.

EW

For those trying to login..will that make it worse for others? I don't want the corrupted data to slow down those who are patient.

Not for you, just for them - every 15 minutes I have to pause upload, and overwrite log files because of it :/

Hi Guys - we are at 85% now - we slowed down now as you see, but I dont want to mess with settings, as we are to close to finish...
I will update you when we are at 90%

If speed wont increase then ETA will be 5 hours...
I hope it will get back to where it was before, so this will be cut to 2-3 hours.

EW

OK, speeding up again - 200 files/3 sec is our ratio now.
Hopefully it will get back to 100/150 per second.

Hi all,
I haven't run off to hide anywhere, EW has kept me busier than ever checking files, dealing with skype's, pm's and our client management system. In fact I've only left my monitor twice in the last 13 hours.

We are almost done. We slowed down once due to size of files, but all files are being uploaded correctly.

If either of us isn't active on the thread I can assure you we're going flat out behind the scenes.

Thank you all
:)

I can't remember this is my xth disappointment.
Every few hours I refresh and I still got the same result - The site still down.

UPDATE FOR FRENCH SERVER -

90% and counting guys.
We slowed down a lot, my Ram on server that is used for transfer runs at 90-95% now, so I logged off to save precious resources.
I dont know what is the reason for slowing down, but it is not something I will try to fix, as we are to close to ending this to screw things up.
10% left - ETA 3-4 hours unless we will speed up.
Let us hope this will end soon!

EW

We are at 92% - we slowed down a lot... We are now 60% slower than an hour ago. I will consider in 10 minutes if there will be no change - restarting uploading to speed things up.

What we're at, Bart?

I localized problem of slow connection speed - apparently we are under ongoing hack attack - I am suspecting bot set to attack us using created exploit once our sites are up.
I am working on it trying to block it.
I will update with details of how we are doing in maximum 1 hour.
This is very delicate situation right now, so please be patient, and stay around for updates.

EW

So far I see this:

Bot waits remotely until it detects WHM going online (it goes online before websites) -> starts accessing exploits created over time and left around server before -> after accessing server bot closes all ports, and make server inaccessible -> bot starts to delete files or send them to the host (hard to determine) -> early warning system shuts down system -> bot cant perform it task but leaves server inaccessible.
I simply don't know who would create such a malicious bot...

I will update in 20 minutes - trying to figure this out.

EW

How could you not patch the exploit before putting the sites back up?
