I work for paypal customer service but not for the US.

So i don't know if there are different rules but i think not.

If all the customer fill a dispute against him, you can be sure to recover your money.

It will juste take time.

EDIT; If someone haven't be refund, i ll be glad to help you.

I have not the permisions to refund myself, but i have give some advices

your inbox is gonna be full. lol

The party is not over...I filed a dispute with paypal and just like with mudbutt, the seller escalated it to a claim...he even slandered me and lied in the paypal disputes sellers comments area saying that I wanted to steal his plugin, null it and sell it on another forum LOL

This guy is the lowest of the low.

He did that to get as much cash as he can before his PP account has issues due to the volume of disputes relative to the volume of sales.

yeah, I can see that... I didn't see page 2 and 3... dumb ass me :P So i didn't read the whole thing! Good to see he's gone!

I wish to extend my apologies to the members of BHW.
I approved ExtremeSEO's sales thread. However, until
carsonrathi came forward this morning, I was unaware
that ExtremeSEO's tool was a straight out rip of carson's
tool.

I do hope that those of you who paid for the product
get your refund back. It really sucks when something
like this happens.

Sincerely - "Wiz"

I don't know how to take it down but I'm sure there are some SEO experts here who could blast some links to this thread so that it ranks pretty high for "rankbox" and "rankbox review" and "rankbox scam."

edit: It's already #1 as a sublisting for "rankbox." Rankbox.me is only #4...

http://www.mediafire.com/?x1v5t33nydr2xiu (excel) this a report of the backlinks for rankbox!

Look closly and you will see he doesn't have much link diversity or a good link campaign!

It wouldn't take much for the site to get a slap if done right but ill leave that to you guys, its not my war but I hate people who steal from others!

I know and that's why i didin't say this before.

But i have a conscience, that's why.

First advice, for all buyers, open directly a claim, it will be faster for paypal to make a decision

and say it was a counterfeiting software.

Also don't PM me, i prefer to answer on this thread :)

Sonat,
I also bought a lifetime license, and I am so frustrated right now.
Can you tell us what kind of claim should we file and what should we tell PayPal to win this case?

Thanks for your help.

It's not your fault. You were unaware of carsonrathi's plugin.

When I was asking pre-sales questions he was saying this to me:

[3-45 AM] iiNTENSE: Both BigBuddy and Wiz gave their outstanding approval
[3-42 AM] iiNTENSE: BigBuddy actually recommended it to Wiz
[3-45 AM] iiNTENSE: through PM

Which gave me the confidence to purchase the lifetime license.

Oh well, I don't blame you for approving the BST, not like you had carsons's code to compare it to at time of approval!

Feel free to read the GPL...but the long story short is that any plugin that requires WordPress functionality..hooks...etc...falls under GPL. If it is within WordPress but does not require WordPress functionality...to work, then it doesn't fall under GPL.

Here's a quote from Wordpress GPL license:
If identifiable sections of that work are not derived from the Program,
and can be reasonably considered independent and separate works in
themselves, then this License, and its terms, do not apply to those
sections when you distribute them as separate works. But when you
distribute the same sections as part of a whole which is a work based
on the Program, the distribution of the whole must be on the terms of
this License, whose permissions for other licensees extend to the
entire whole, and thus to each and every part regardless of who wrote it.

ExtremeSEO, while your defense is very clever (according to the WP license, any commercial WP plugin can be copied and resold), your actions are opportunistic. I assume you think this is a moral issue rather than a legal one (since you quoted WizGizmo on this). Legally, your actions are justifiable. Morally - I don't think so. I personally see your behavior as parasitic.

Here's an advice to carsonrathi: I haven't seen your source code so I don't know if this is how you wrote your plugin. According to the same WP GPL license, if you implement your plugin as an API and separate your main functions from wp hook calls, the GPL license doesn't apply to the main functions. So you might want to start doing that if you haven't already.

so should i do a chargeback? (I guess i have to call my credit card to do this) or just let the open dispute go through?

I would be calling my credit card bank right away; PP dispute can take some time and the CC company is more likely to handle this much more quickly and is probably a better bet for you anyway.

This case is difficult but not impossible.

Difficult because PayPal generally not refund a claim about a non-physical product (software in this case)

BUT i have already see guys refunded in this case if the paypal account receive lots of claims.

My advice :

Call Paypal (your claim will have more power)

Ask to speak with dispute and claim services.

Be honest and tell them the story.

Ask for a PPcase number to be sure your claim is open.

Sometimes, the guys says he can't do this, or he won't do this.

In this case, stay polite and make a credit card opposition

Wow! What a shock. I guess you just never know. I just got done reading through this, I was one of the beta testers. I would have never guessed that he was so shady about things from the way he was providing support and knowledge of the plugin. I am sorry to the OP for having to deal with the hassle of code being stolen. I went through something like this with an iOS app at the beginning of the year and it is discouraging. Pretty badass that the Mods handle things so well and so quickly. Nice to know there is protection here on BHW. Love this place.

Sue him. That will be a lesson.
If he used paypal you can really damage him.

I cant believe extremeseo does'nt have the decency to refund all of us buyers...banning him is useless, we don't get our money and i'm sure he will just re-register with another username or already has another username...impossible to control.

I know that the software RE-distributor will not read this, but I will list a few advantages and disadvantages of licensing, and the difference between licensing and moral obligations.

1- WP is GPL, and plugins based on "hooking" into GPL products ARE NOT AUTOMATICALLY GPL, as they are not an "addition" to WP code, being incorporated into it, but simply "hooked", and may be licensed in any fashion. Under at least United States law, any code that is developed, is automatically "copyrighted" to the author. It is up to the AUTHOR'S discretion to license at he wishes, and no indication of GPL release was insinuated, so even with readable source, this is NOT a Free as in freedom product (GPL, MOZZ, etc). Just being able to see all of the text in a copyrighted book does not make it "open" to reproduction or alteration in ANY WAY. Not only that, if you wish to enter the code into a commercial product that you wish NOT to have reshared without (or with) than the Mozilla or BSD licensing shemes might be more to your likening than GPL in the end anyway.

2. If the plugin was released under GPL, then anyone who bought it, would THEN have the right to modify and redistribute, but only in the case that they allow others to do the same (such as posting the code with GPL notice on the boards). This is not the case, so please do not share the code here without understanding that it would be a DCMA violation even if you shared the original code.

3. As for the moral issue. BHW has an ethic of allowing shared material, unless a DCMA is filed for DNS. Please add the original file AND the modified (just for safe measure) so that it does not get shared here again without BST interaction, also disallowing BST shares for the modified due to the copying issue.

4. As for refunding money, apologizing, and etc.. good luck. If someone breaks into your home and sells your stereo to someone else, the likelyhood of that person being "moral" enough to pay that someone else back is nill to none. PayPal is prob your best bet, but as it is a digital product, they may not go for a refund at first, until you explain to them that they are selling fake products, just like Likey' tennis shoes from China. He should at least lose his account.

I would suggest he read this and refund, but as he made it perfectly clear how he feels, I myself would just ban him and let those who were ripped off go all out for his PP account (after this, I am sure the money has already been pulled) funds and even shut down.

If you have some time, you can also do a little "reputation management" of your own wherever the person is found to be posting (or search results) on line.

Eh...what protection? we got scammed and there is nothing the mods can do about it except ban the guy.
