Quiting smoking

Honestly the price alone here for cigarettes was making me sick plus knowing that I did it to myself would be one of thing most unforgivable things I could have imagined. Dizz, I do wish you luck but remember, its a lifestyle change just like with any drug. You have to make not smoking a priority in your life and you will notice after the years go by how much healthier you will feel. Don't do it for anyone one but yourself or it will not work. Let the nicotine go out of your system for a week(do it cold turkey if you can as the gum or NRT only prolongs you in using in my opinion.Try chewing gum, exercising, and eating the right food as alternatives even meditating if you so inclined to do so and realize how much money you have saved that could go into things that you and Amanda could enjoy. That is truly priceless. Wishing you the best~ Pm me if you need to just talk

last month when i had my new born baby i decided to quit smoking.

I hear that...I quit when my daughter was 1 1/2 and I wanted to be sure I'd be around to see her grow up (I'm pretty old already lol). And I think that's the only reason I was able to do it.

It's almost 2 years now and I still want one at times --- but my reason for quitting was stronger than my reasons for smoking. I think that for many people, that's the only way it'll work. Until she was born, I never seriously thought about quitting even once, even though I was getting sick from it.

Dizz, you can succeed --- IF you have a reason for quitting that's more powerful than the desire to smoke. Find that reason, and you can make it through the next day and next week and next month...and then you'll be home free. Good luck.

one thing i found those patches seemed to do to me was leave my arm dead/numb

I'm gonna stick my opinion in here without reading anything but the first few posts then skipping through and reading one in probably each 15 posts after that...

I smoked since I was 7 years old, bad I know but that's how it is.
Continued for the next 30 years until my lil lad was born (after 3 girls).
This was when I decided that I had had enough. I had wanted to quit for years and years, even tried to set dates and times to do it.

Always failed.

This time though wasn't a premeditated decision.
I just came home from work one day and only had enough tobacco left for one roll up, just enough for one more smoke.

I just couldn't be bothered to go to the shop to buy more and said to myself "screw it, i'll just wait until morning and see how I feel..."

Morning came and it wasn't so bad, so I said... "Leave it until dinner..."

So on and so on.

No patches, no alternatives... Nothing.
Just carried on cold turkey because it really wasn't that hard.
Remember i'd smoked for 30 years.. All day, every day.

I found it a doddle to quit because I didn't plan it.

That was 5 years ago (in 2 days) and i'll never look back.

Easy.

Good luck ;-)

Well this particular type of coughing is great news. Dust particles that we inhale all the time are transported back from the lungs to the mouth and usually swallowed to be expelled through we all know what :)

The transport is through tiny 'hairs' in the lungs and cigarette smoke keeps them paralyzed. When we sleep, we are not smoking and they start working so smokers usually need to cough out all the crap that was transported while they slept.

Same with you now, even if you don't sleep.

The next thing you are about to experience in just a day or so is being able to do more physical work without panting. This is due to getting rid of the carbon monoxide constantly lodged in 10% of your oxygen transporting cells while you smoked.
Problem with insomnia may get worse, I am not sure.... But judging from my father, it only gets worse as a man ages, as far as I can tell.. He sleeps about 4 hours at a stretch... Maybe its just in my family, but I know a lot of people that sleep like that... As far as my physical activity goes, I dont have that as much as I used to, due to being ill all the time. So its hard for me to work out or go do things anyways, so I dont get tired very often... My life is pretty sedentary. I may notice some things when I have to go to the mailbox, however, so I wll report...

hic hic :( i tried it 4 times but it's impossible with me how can I do :(
Get that its about you, and nothing else, can't quit a damn thing unless its for you... And make sure you really want to quit, because you are your own worst enemy... Your mind is an adult theater, and you have to be 21 or older to get in, lol, you aren't there yet, so stay out, and dont think about it... Also, dont take that personally, its a parable...

WTF? Do you work for my insurance company... LOL, they said the same thing.. I have a 800 number that I can call anytime if I have a smoking emergency... And Im not kidding, thats how they told it to me... A smoking emergency... Umm... I know how twelve step programs work, and this is set up just like AA.

Oh, I know I will be fine with it, its just aggravating because your body has to clean out all the shit the cigarettes put in your system... And Im a dick already... So for the next (however long it takes) I am probably going to say and do things I dont mean, because my body is out of sorts...

Well, for me this book that was mentioned before changed A LOT.

Firstly I thought, a book?? Come on, it won't change MY behaviour. But I was wrong, I'm not yet finished with it, as I'm reading very slowly, but yet I have a very different view on cigarettes now. It describes your feelings really good, and I have planned to really quit after finishing it.

I smoke for 4 years straight at least 1 package a day. Imagine putting all these cigarettes in a room. Or calculate how much money that was approximately: 10.000€

So I have put 10.000€ hard earned money just in harming my health pretty big ;)

The book would say, think like THIS NEXT cigarette, if I smoke it NOW, it will cost me 20.000$.

Today for example I haven't smoked the whole day, until around 8 pm. This is s.th. that would have never happened before.

OK..finished this, let's smoke one of my last zigarettes now ;) //** To lazy to get my ass up, I don't smoke now. Normally I would have had already smoke in my lungs.

This has been great suport from the people here at bhw

Quitting smoking is the hardest method ever, lol :D

I invented a new "quit smoking" patch. The different
thing about mine is that you don't put it on your arm.
Instead, you put it over your mouth! . . . Works great! :D

This can also be used as a "Diet Patch". ;)

Its also called the "Shut the FUCK UP BITCH" Brand name Tape, its good for the High School babysitters, when they want to bring their boyfriends over, also made in the Easy Tear Kidnapping Kit, which also includes burlap bags, chloroform, a stun gun for the really lazy criminal, and its a bargain at...... $97 Just wait, there's more... I will also throw in 10 feet of silk rope, because when you are kidnapping them, you care for their comfort... Because a upset victim means an unhappy criminal...Unless you like it like that... Handcuffs sold separately...

Its good for stop smoking, stop drinking, stop eating, unfortunately it doesn't stop me from writing things like this... LOL... And the "SHUT THE FUCK UP" series also includes fashionable colors and easy portability for the killer on the go.... Mom's version comes with a baby powder scent so the guilt of taping the childs mouth shut will ease....

God forgive me,
Dizz:cool:

P.S.- Some how I have developed a new Spencer's product... :D And for sex shops all over america...

I'm So Proud of you BABY!!!!!!!!!

Amanda

P.S.- I would buy the kidnapping kit... So I could steal back my heart, LOL It was almost too sweet...

WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFF??????????

Day Two.. Second Patch... The people say that the side effects are the itching, vivid dreams etc... What they dont say, is how FUCKED Up the Dreams are......

Ok, so I just woke up...

My dream....... Ok, so I was walking down a river and I see a little pond.. FILLED WITH EELS or eel like creatures, something out of a Sci-Fi movie..... I fall into the pond.... The eels start chasing me, so I start swimming the fuck away, and all the sudden either a rhino, or a fucking hippo rises up, in my way, so I kick off of it... As I nearly make it to shore, where Amanda, and some of our friends are holding out sticks for me to grab on, another one pops up... OMG... And not only are these popping up, the eels are still chasing me... And they are EVERYWHERE!!!! So I shot out of bed, stumbling... Because well, I have no balance in the morning.....

So... Vivid DREAMS.... No shit... I never have dreams like this... Or not remember...

Dizz...

Oh, and the patch still itches... I put the new one on this morning, and the itching sucks, goes away after like half an hour.... But Amanda had to tape it down.... So I cant rip it off...

Right after I'm done with this, I am reading what all the rest of the side effects are... UGH... And this shit is supposed to go on for 10 weeks????????? I wonder how many more nightmares I am going to write on here... I think I am going to bitch at the people that are at the insurance company for understating things... LOL Now this ought to give you guys a good read...

Seriously it doesn't take 10 weeks to quit smoking. It literally takes 3 days - after that, most of the nicotine is gone from your system and you're done with the physical withdrawals. From that point on, it's purely psychological and breaking the habits you've built up around smoking (eg. having a cigarette when you first wake up, when you have your coffee etc).

yes you're right autumn it should only take a few days but I take so much medication that they want to run me through a 10 week program to make sure that I don't have any weird affects from suddenly changing my body chemistry. So this is strictly from a medical standpoint a safety concern. They'll want the medication I'm taking now to change how it works because I've taken a chemical out of my body that is been there for so very long. So they used a thing called a step down method. I take medications that are highly addictive so to protect me and them they're doing it slowly to make sure everything goes well. If the nicotine somehow interacts with the medication now and then three days later I didn't have any in my system I could have a bad reaction. My health is that bad.

Thanks

That sucks dizz, sorry to hear that... Keep it up.

I'm one of the lucky 3499 - I simply forgot I was a smoker. The stuffs amazing.

I tried to stop smoking with Chantix, and got sick as a damn dog. Seems 1 in 3500 people are allergic to it, and I'm one of them. Ended up having to go back to the doctor to get straightened out.

I told the doctor, I'd rather smoke than be that sick again.

I'm ready to try quitting again. The wife quit by using the patches, hasn't had a cigarette in over 10 years.

Might have to try that.

Good luck, Dizz. I'll be starting my turn in a week. Already set the date. (July 4th, my "Independence from Cigarettes" day.

better do it slowly not to stop right away or you'll get the thing called "lung cancer"
