shouldnt matter, unless your hosting provider is located somewhere geographically drastically different...like if you have a US site, and you are moving from a US server to a Russian server, or visa versa

Go get a new hosting plan, and get everything transferred over before your current hosting runs up. Feel free to transfer/re-register the domain to the new place (you'll still get the full year), or keep it at the current one. You just need to change the DNS around.

Once everything is on the new host, change the DNS from old to new, and check your site. You shouldn't notice any change in the SERPs, just be sure to keep everything the same.

I'm not sure what you meant about Wordpress plugins.

No, just keep it the same.

It sounded like you may be wanting to move your site to a different server and convert it to wordpress? Don't.

if you make major changes to your site or your where your site is hosted then yes it will effect your rankings..

Yes that will affect

many people don;t belive in this statement but that will affect you serp due to downtime.

@redwolf you would have to have some serious downtime for it to have any affect on your serps.

I've done this multiple times and have never had a serp drop when changing hosting. Make sure you do it seemlessly and within 48hrs and you'll be fine.

The short answer is no.

But it would depend on the speed of your new webhost and the amount of downtime.

nope that will happen many times with me

oh i am talking about high competitors sites

Competition is irrelevant when you're talking about downtime. Sites will always have downtime for various reasons and the engines understand this. I've found in the past anything under 48hrs and you shouldn't see any affect.

As a previous poster said the short answer is no.

throughout the forum I have heard yes and no

@OP I have heard no more often than not, do it and let us know if there was any effect

Possible you could lose your ranking. I have seen a big difference in ranking depending on host. I always go with the larger, more well known companies

Even 24-48 hours of downtime shouldn't affect the rankings, and if it does, it will only be temporary.

You need to move the site over completely to the new host, so you have 2 copies of your website (one on each host). Then change the DNS records for your domain, and there will be ZERO downtime.

It will be instant.

Once the nameservers have updated, and you're positive that the site is working as it should. You no longer need the version on your old host.

I have changed hosts and not had it affect my rankings. Everything went just fine.

I have no clue why some others are claiming it will...
