I have saw 100's of my articles on the 2 major article sites drop from page 1 and plunge down the serps. No BS. Hundreds of pages at AB and EZ.

Anyone else notice this. Did they lose their G juice? Has this happened before? Will they come back? Could they come back with more work? Does anyone else have questions or thoughts about this?

As it stands now I am going to lose thousands per month as I totally focused on article marketing for the last year and a half.

All of the article sites got it. It's the new update. Average drop in ranking for a page on any article site is ~30 positions.

Article directories took a big hit today on the algo. change they might come back up but my intuition says not.

Yeah looks like they took a hit. For example, one of my articles has been on page 2 is now on page 7.

Out of 730 EZA pages sampled, 700 lost rank, by an average of 3 pages. Party's over!

All you guys are talking about your articles dropping in ranking... If that's the case it only seems logical that they've devalued the links on these articles too.

Has anyone who uses article marketing as a major SEO tool seen a drop in their main sites rankings?

This is what I have been wondering as well. This may significantly change SEO strategies if article backlinks are near worthless.

I think its more of the articles that have been spammed to death over and over!

Submitting one article to 2 or 3 seems to hold value pretty well

Easy way to check this:

Go to G then type in

"your keyword" + site:ezinearticles.com

Then grab a few decent title/text and put it in another tab as a search phrase, see if it's ranking.

OR, build a massive keyword list, fire up MS and hit the rank checker for ezine with those phrases and see if ANYthing in your market is hitting the first 10 results.

No need to speculate, just check it. If they don't like that platform anymore, I'm sure there will be others that pass through their loving eyes. :)

Yesterday google made a BIG update, that affects about 12% of all Searches (that's a damn big update.)

They hit pretty hard content farms, article directories, and hubpages, squidoo and all websites with high trust where anyone can post article basically.

This means : rebirth of micro niches websites. I think it's a good think. Advertising money and traffic that used to go to content farms mammoths, like ezine articles, will be redistributed to microniche websites, and small websites owners.

I have no data to back my claim but I don't think so. A backlinks is a backlink. If it's on a high PR page with related content and the anchor text you are targetting it's going to be a good backlink. I don't think it's going to weigh less or even be penalyzing just because it comes from an article directory. If the article directory has a good PR, it's aged etc etc the backlink you are getting will be as good as it used to be. Nothing changes on that side imo.

What's probably changing is the extra love Google was showing to big article directories like EZA, Article Dashboard and whatnot, often resulting in ranking high newly published articles without going through the hassle of building links.

So, if for example publishing articles on EZA to rank higher easily for low was kinda a "loophole", it may be no more.

It's possible that article directories are now classified as content farms as well by a new pickier update of the big G. They are Internet Marketer's reigns after all where quality content is quite often the last concern of the writer. So no wonder that Google now acknowledges the unevitable truth and rank directories as any other site.

But before jumping to conclusions we should wait some days to see how things pan out.

Btw if somebody is going down, somebody else is rising... ;)

Relevance of a backlink isn't measured by the content on the page like it was years ago. The best way to measure the weight that's going to be passed to you is to look at how the article ranks for terms related to the term you're targeting. If your article is sent way down in the SERPs, the relevance of that link goes down as well along with the benefit.

Let's be honest, this was coming. It's the same for comment links they little weight now.
So the question has to be ,what does carry weight?
It's going to get harder to cheat the system but not impossible.

The links from thr article seem fine.I got site onto page 1 with article links only,it's still there.

You cant get assured with examples of just one site. Seo and Google algorithm doesn't depend on just 1example.

So what is holding value in google's eye . .. A Big Question

You KNOW that for a fact? I wanted to ask that very same question, how a back link's quality is related to the SERPs of a location with your link.

In current calculations of "backlink strength"...SERPs dont play a role AT ALL.

backlink strength is calculated by PR, number of outbound links, nofollow, d0f0llow.

So..how do you KNOW serps play any role in backlink strength?

The SERP doesn't play a role, it's just the best way to measure how good a backlink is. To break it down to PR is way too simple and hasn't been accurate since at least 2005 or 2006.

Take my word or don't, I've used single high ranking links to take sites from past page 5 to number 1 in no time.

I most definitely agree with this. Trying to get backlinks from the sites that are already ranking for the main keyphrases in your niche is by far the number one way to get backlinks.

IMHO the next tier of link quality after that would be links from generic authorities with good anchor text and large amounts of social buzz.

We just have to examine the top 10 sites and do the same. No big deal.

Lets say you want to rank for a new site. Just go and examine top 10 sites.

Can you tell me how you will judge which backlink is holding good value in your eye and which backlink is holding good value in google's eye. There will be tons of backlinks. Really no big deal :D

I wish seo would have been that much easy.:p
