Need Hosting HELP! :(

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post, I have a website which has been hosted with Godaddy for well over a year, things were fine untill a month back when the traffic reached around 9K unique visitors a day...

My webmaster tools is showing several 500 Errors, analytics is showing that the traffic is increasing too.

I tried switching to Level 6 VPS by hostgator, to be very honest it sucked, their support team tried a lot to get my site running but failed cz that server couldn't even take that load either, so i had to get a refund.

It's not that my site isnt running at all with godaddy shared, but still there are many 500 Errors.

What should I do , I feel that if I go with a dedicated server I'll be completely lost as I dunno working with Linux... but still would really like to know some good and affordable dedicated hosting providers...

Oh ya forgot 2 mention that I even received a couple of mails from Godaddy sometime back telling me that my site was putting too much load on their servers and i should switch to a dedicated server, after that I installed the Total Cache plugin and things were cool, but Iam worried about the increasing 500 errors

If your willing to drop the extra cash there is 2 different things that could help you.

1. Fully Managed Server
You can get a managed server and have everything on the backend taken care of. From hardware to kernel upgrades. More $$$$ but depending on what your doing can be worth it.

2. Un-managed Dedicated Server
Get a Dedicated server and then hire a company to manage it. The hardware issues will end up going through your hosting company so you will have 2 different parties to work with. CAN be less money overall, if you choose this though you will need to do some thorough research on who to choose for managing your server.

Also, with only 9K uniques monthly and depending on databases... You could get a managed cloud server for a halfway decent price and be just fine. Then if you ever need to you can turn up more space/procs/ram in a hurry.

To be very honest I am scared to hand over the details of my logins to a company other than the hosting company itself(theres no option to let them not know it anyways), the site is making over 2K per month, so i dont mind spending a little for its maintenance, I purchased Godaddy's New Grid hosting but havent migrated yet, not really sure it will solve the problem, as we speak Iam just disabling a few plugins and see what else i can do to make it survive...

Tried hostgator's shared also... and it sux much much much more than godaddy's shared simply cz of the 25 maximum process limits

Its not 9K uniques monthly, its 9K uniques daily... and over 200,000 uniques monthly, keeps fluctuating....

Try looking for a managed VPS or dedicated server if you are unsure of how to set things up - or an unmanaged VPS / dedi and get someone to set it all up for you.

Having never used Hostgator do they use cPanel or their own control panel? If it is cPanel get a VPS / dedi with cPanel set up and then you can transfer your accounts across very easily and not give your login details to anyone else

Hostgator is the way to go I would say. You could set up your own server to host with but that will most likely not be the best option. I would buy a better package with HostGator. Which do you have?

To be honest, the only ones I will recommend at the moment are the hosts I am currently with -

There are probably lots of good hosts but I am happy with them

I have been with them a good few months now and have had no problems whatsoever.

Get a cPanel VPS with them, get someone to install it if you are not too sure how to do it, and then when its all set up use the WHM account transfer function to drag your accounts across from HG.

Hostgator is the way to go I would say. You could set up your own server to host with but that will most likely not be the best option. I would buy a better package with HostGator. Which do you have?

Ok, well then I would try to get rid of the resources. That used to slow down my site bitterly. I had so many add-ons and videos and stuff that it ruined my site. I would minimize that sort of stuff before you try switching over. Its a hassle to switch to new stuff when everythings on the old provider. Do what you want or need though.

If you have some meaty sites on your hosting, look at something with 1Gb RAM. Disk space - depends on how much space you have taken and of course cPanel.

Advantage of a VPS is if you are not using half of the resources you can downgrade without any downtime - same goes if your site goes mad and grows, you can increase without a problem

i'm interested too aboit this subject, i'm in same situation, i have VPS level 6 at hostgator, but my cpu in some momets is 100%. i decide to change to dedicated servers but for the moment i'm searching ...

As this dicussion was on, I disabled many useless plugins, gonna remove the images too now as those are being hotlinked from other sources... i came across mediatemple's grid hosting too... i dunno if grid hosting will help it or not..

And yaa it sure is a pain in the a** to transfer a site and configure the new server
