How to determine good keyword stats

hello everyone. I lurk around daily, reading but not posting much. After much reading, I have decided to undergo a small project to make some $. I have found a product via alibaba, imported this item to the U.S, and am now in the stage of promoting the site that I built for it. The site has been live for 2-3 weeks now. I have not ranked in google for any keywords yet.. other then in quotes. Being that this is my first project, I am not sure if this keyword offers hope in bringing in money. The specifics of this three word kw (all three are nouns) include:

5,400 global searches
2,900 local searches
398,000 search results in google when keywords are in quotes

My competitors on the first page include, nextag,overstock, and amazon..
but there are no competitors with any "content" sites (mine has original content). I see my site making progress, even though its so new. I rank #1 in yahoo for the keyword but the word "buy" in front of it.
All of my backlinking is from xrumer currently, and I am confident I will reach the #1 spot in google sooner or later. But what I am really unsure about is the traffic. Will those targeted searches be enough to sell this product I have? I am hoping to achieve 4% success rate with my visitors... what do you more experienced people feel is possible with these given stats..

You should be very careful while targeting product keywords. Visitors are most likely to click on shopping sites. The only way to profit from product keywords is to out rank these authority sites which is not easy, but you can!

What do you mean by exact count? They are the figures given by the google keyword tool. I didn't put quotes around my keywords when i used the tool...

In regards to outranking the shopping sites.. I don't see why i can't beat them.. being that my site will have all original content..nobody else has a site like that? Each purchase is $24.99, should make around 19-20 per sale after all is said and done.. But again, I am not sure if this is enough traffic to get results..

keyword in quotes with 398,000 competing pages its going to be hard. for me max. 35 000 competing pages
