Newbie needs advice on starting linkwheel

Hi..I am just getting started planning to build a linkwheel for my site. I have purchased ScrapeBox but I want to begin by manually doing things so I can get a feel for what I will later automate with SB. This way I hope to better understand the process.

I want to make sure that I understand the concept. If I mess up the links linking directly to my site and they are removed then I will also lose all the links which follow. Could be a huge loss! I want to avoid that.

The diagram I saw showing a link wheel had what I guess is usually called the "money site" at the center. And just outside that was a concentric circle of what I take it people here call "hubs". There were relatively few hubs compared to the ring even further out which were links to the hubs for "link juice".

Now what is confusing me right now is that this particular diagram (not on BHW) showed the hubs linking not only directly to the money site but also to EACH OTHER. I have heard mixed opinions on this. Some say that leaves "fingerprints" , some not.

Is there a consensus on whether hubs linking to each other is bad?

Also, any tips on ensuring my hub sites are permanent links? Should they all be high PR sites? How about doing a Squidoo lens as my first hub?

what is the role of scrapebox in link wheel making?

I think through Rank Builder software you can easily create link wheel, make rss feed and submit to all rss aggregator and also ping all things.

Anyway, still would like to hear others thoughts on the questions I posed earlier.

I would use something like serpassist for creating your linkwheel, you need to create web 2.0 sites. Scrapebox will be good for creating further backlinks to them, but something like serpassist for actually creating the linkwheel

Thanks but I will need to go with free tools until I can start generating some income from my sites.

For now I have SEO spyglass and Market Samurai and SB to work with.

I think I can do my own diagram..maybe use a spreadsheet or something to keep track of which link links to which "spoke"?

I really feel I am flying in the dark right now.

Linkwheel is a structure of links on high pagerank web 2.0 platform

Blogger > Wordpress > Tumblr > BacktoBlogger

Basically a continous link structure that goes in a circle.

Google around a little and you should get a clear idea by looking at images.

That is similar to the diagram I saw. But it still leaves me with one of my original questions: Is it ok to link the hubs to each other? Does that leave a "footprint" to google? Someone else here on BHW said that it did and I was hoping someone could shed some illumination on that, please.

From what I'm reading it seems to mean that google figures out that the source of all these backlinks is one person.

As for my question about hubs linking to each other, take a look at the diagram in BassTrackerBoats' avatar. I can't find a way to reproduce a large image here. His hubs are not linked.

I'm just asking if it's normally done that way or not and what are the implications of doing it/not doing it?

This won't leave a footprint. Just don't link all the hubs and feeder sites to one another and you'll be fine.

Well I've read multiple times on here that one should not go for linkwheels, but rather link pyramids. I would like to post images to further displays the studies but unfortunately I can't, which I think is due to my post count

I read a lot of link wheels and link pyramids. Its looks as if link wheels don't work like they used to be and link pyramid seems to work better these days. Also if you were to do a link wheel make it an "open link wheel". That means don't connect the last 2 ends together, instead branch it out. I can't post an image but do a quick search on link pyramids.

It looks like BassTrackerBoats diagram actually consists of multiple link pyramids- there is a large base of links providing "link juice" to fewer and fewer others until you reach the hubs which link directly to your money site (the apex) but not to each other.

Another small tip, when possible choose sites where you're content/page is hosted in a sub-directory rather than on a sub-domain.

Should be pretty self-explanatory why this is a good idea.

There are seo sites and then there is THIS site. I remember a couple weeks ago after reading my first few threads a smile started creeping across my face because I just KNOW the information I learn here WILL help me make money.

I've done on-site seo, now it's time for the Fun Part! Reeling 'em in!!

Right now I'm going to make my first hub a Squidoo lens and start slowly (at first) building backlinks to it. Then add a few more quality hubs and go from there..

I believe you can link hubs to hubs, as long as they are linked in a completely randomized way, and as long as the hubs are a few tiers away from one another. Tiers are simply "linkwheels" (for instance) connected to your other "linkwheels". Your tiers keep branching out.. and out.. and out.. theoretically to an infinite number of tiers. It is perfectly fine, in fact, I believe good, to interlink from, say, tier 3 to tier 7.. as long as not all 3's go to 7's.. some go to 9's, some 2's, some none at all... chaos + random = natural :globe:

edit: remember also, since you are off to a good start by using quality web20 sites like squidoo, to make several pages/posts per hub. Doing this gradually will help increase the strength of your hub.. and your link network as a whole. Good luck!
