Advanced IMers use two monitors - WHY ??!!

what monitar racks you guy used?

its so hard to find them , and those i cound found is so expensive, does not worth the price tag

editing source code and checking on page results as you go on the other screen

just another tip. for those of you switching between two computers, use synergy. it's a program that allows you to integrate multiple computers to one mouse and keyboard. in other words you can seamlessly move your mouse from one computer's screen to the next, and your keyboard will work for both. for those that use a linux and windows machine at the same time, this is wonderful.

Hey, thanks so much for this tip! I had already been using two monitors but it was on 2 separate computers, a laptop and PC. So I was using two keyboards and two mouses! So I looked into synergy and multi-monitoring, and ended up finding out that Windows 7 already has great automatic dual-monitor capabilities!

So I dumped the laptop, hooked up a second monitor to one computer, and windows did most of the setup automatically. I just pressed windows button + p, then extend. Then tweaked screen resolution in control panel. And I ended up not needing synergy because the mouse and keyboarding automatically move seamlessly between the 2 monitors! Plus you can drag and drop open windows to the other monitor too.

I had been intending to have this setup for a while and now I have it and it's awesome! :D

You know what the synergy will be very useful for when I want to connect my PC to my laptop. So I will be using synergy after all. And I realize that's the setup you intended your suggestion to be for. I heard you had to install video cards for this stuff, but this software makes it much easier! :)

3 monitors and 5 virtual desktops for a total of 15 screens.

i never have to minimize anything :D

sounds crazy but i have 4 monitors... 3 alligned and a 32'' above them for running multimedia..

WoW farm pics.

LOL, looks like someone has a nice gold farming business set up!

I personally have a 22in and a 19in as a secondary for misc stuff. Maybe someday I'll get dual 24in+ but I hardly find a real need for it.

This is such an old post. In any case, I'd like to point out that the guy saying "A wise man said [...] too much information [...]" is simply not thinking.

Multiple monitors allow you to spread all the information you need in a single distribution, meaning you require less time tracking what you should be tracking, and focusing more time on simply reviewing and using the information.

The practical uses are endless, but to list some possibilities:

- A screen d3dicated to IM for contacting with clients.
- A screen d3dicated to research (notepads, multiple browsers).
- A screen d3dicated to whatever you are actively working on (for which you'd need the research).

Honestly, I can't see anyone in PPC or web design/coding (or even SEO / social marketing, for that matter) being able to work properly WITHOUT at least two monitors.

I think three is only reasonable, and perhaps still a bit lacking.

Add to that the people that actually code, needing demos, multiple OSes, data sheets, etc.

As for myself, I can only work if I have at least two screens, but I prefer more. I run 24" Samsung LED screens, as they tend to be easier on the eyes. This month, I'm using only one screen as I need to focus on my writing.

Nice set-ups, everybody.

Went from 4 monitors - down to a single 1080 13inch Sony Z laptop. Mix in onboard 3g and im mobile from anywhere in the world.

I do use lots of RDP's though - which is kind of like another monitor.

Do you always use the laptop now because you prefer it to the 4 monitors, or because you're always on the go?

get vmware

I use the remote desktops for speed - vmware wont give me gbit connections. Its also nice to leave things running if/when my computer is powered off.

So they can attract more chicks.

David DeAngelo gave that advice on his first ebook.

I have been running 2 28 inch monitors and recently went back to 1... I think I am enjoying the peace

and on 2nd thouught I guess I am going back to 2 monitors again...

Year old thread and if you have to ask why you don't need them!

LOL when I was trading stocks I had three monitors with my main work being on the primary monitor, and stocks chart from different sources on monitor 2 and 3. But now I used primary monitor for leisure (surfing, gaming) and secondary monitor for work and internet stats.
