Advanced IMers use two monitors - WHY ??!!

when you have multiple screens its obviously easier to do work.. the more you can see at one time the better your brain can function.. especially in this field (internet marketing) its really easy to come up with a quick idea then all of a sudden forget the idea.. i always have a notepad open on my second screen. :)
 
Nobody will understand the need for two or more monitors until they try it. I introduced a two monitor setup in our office, and nobody understood why as we were doing it. After a few days everybody agreed it was so much easier to work with a multi monitor system.

After you have used such a setup you will find it hard to go back to using just a single screen thats for sure!

I personally use three monitors--could NEVER go back to one. Hell, I could probably not even deal with two. Being able to have many more windows open is extremely useful--especially for programming.

I ma looking into getting a second monitor as I only have the one at the moment sometimes I am flicking between 2 computers, but I will get a second one and I know it will make life so much easier.

My thoughts, too!!

Although after I spent time and money to create a great dual monitor system, the best comments I could get from them were, "How does the mouse go from one screen to the next?" It was like watching someone seeing the game "Pong" for the first time!!

Thanks! Probably close to $40,000. But keep in mind the majority of it is for video.

The main computer (mac 8 core) and monitors were probably only about $6000 (included software).
 
While my setup costs no where near $40,000 (I think I got one monitor out of the trash lol), I could never go back to one monitor, as all of my MSN and Skype bots and email, IM etc. on one screen (as the responses are automated anyway), so that new conversations do not popup in my face while working on other things. I use the other screen for all else. I use a totally different computer for seo research so that I can change IPs in MS without cutting my bots off and interrupting my other work.
 
I have multiple comps and internet connections to keep seperate adword accounts

If you have 2 laptops and separete pc with dual monitors.

I only use a single monitor but it's a 42" 1080p TV. I'm still considering getting another monitor too. I think I'll get another 42" 1080p TV though. Two 42" 1080p TVs is like having 5-6 monitors at 1024x768.

The space is essential when multitasking a lot. Allows you to read without alt-tabbing, monitor stats, etc. I'm hoping that when I move in a year I'll have 4 42" 1080p TVs lining a wall in my office. I guess I just want to be able to drag a window so far with my mouse that I can't even see it anymore.

something psychologists (especially those working for the military) knew from early 1940s.

there is a certain degree of comfort/time saving from the multi-monitor setup. but since you should aim to have your focus on the screen in front of you, it means you compromise either by re-arranging windows or watching a side-screen for long periods of time.

I used to have a few monitors from my days of trading (they made the room feel warm and cozy, we are talking 21" Trinitrons back then); nowadays I have only one large monitor and multiple consoles to various assets (ssh, rdp, vnc). My personal opinion? Since I don't do any programming/debugging, I could do everything from cheapbook on the terrace without any noticeable drop in performance.

There is no general rule - just figure out your own "best setup". It looks cool, but so does a picture with your holiday home in Spain.
 
Little tip... go get Multimon from here

It ads a bar to the other screens and makes things even better with dual screens
