Advanced IMers use two monitors - WHY ??!!

we have 4 desktops and 3 laptops in our network at home but we work as a team so we can have several apps running and still watch tv or listen to music,

In my room, I've got my brothers montior (We traded until he gets a new one, long story), which is 18/19 inch, then my TV, which is 22 inch, which I use for tv/music/xbox/laptop second monitor, then my laptop with a 18 inch (I think?) screen which I use for downloading/burning music/burning dvds/senuke.

Thats a great idea. I never thought of turning them sideways.

I have all my instant messengers & itunes on one, my browser one my middle one, and my stats & ultra edit on my other one.

Thats a 24" in the middle and a pair of 21" screens turned sideways on each side. When I build my new desk, I'll get bigger monitors for the sides.

just another tip. for those of you switching between two computers, use synergy. it's a program that allows you to integrate multiple computers to one mouse and keyboard. in other words you can seamlessly move your mouse from one computer's screen to the next, and your keyboard will work for both. for those that use a linux and windows machine at the same time, this is wonderful.

For the people running 3+ monitors, what kind of graphic card setup do you have?

Personally I'm running dual 22"ers and use http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/ for Window management. I prefer it over Multimon and the other Window managers.

We do it for more productivity. I have 2x 24"s.

I wish I had 3-4 x 22"s. I can't and won't go back to one monitor :)

yeah, ive got two 24" monitors and yes they are amazing. having multiple monitors completely opens up a new realm of productivity. i love using multiple monitors working on several projects and once, and micro managing everything on screen.

will never be able to go back to a single monitor.

I have the following

2 x 21" TFT either side of a 36 inch LED TV with PCI port.

I run all my networking apps on one, anything on the middle and my chat rooms and Im's on the right

helps productivity

infact there was a study that web dev's who have 2 or more screens can produce much more work than a single monitor.

The common setup I see is someone will play media on one monitor, and do work on the other (its what I use). Also in addition to this some people use a laptop for IM, and anything else like that, this way they still see that there is a message, but their work isn't interrupted. The nice thing about the laptop is if you want to talk to someone over IM and change locations there are no issues.

i generally use 2 monitors and my laptop. was thinking about getting another monitor. but im building a new dekstop so i think ill just add 3 monitors to the new one and keep the old one at 2 with the laptop. and i always have different things up. emails in one, website, then phpmyadmin, cracking tools. and music or myspace in another

When you get 2 monitors or more, you can hardly go back. It is just too convenient.

Ok im normally never one to brag but here it goes,
Intel Quad Core
16 gigs ram
1TB HD
2 nvidia 9800 GTX 1Gb cards
2 x 19" monitors
23" monitor
and jsut for good measure
a 42" flatscreen tv with dvi

ok im done.. lol

And I totally agree the less opening and closing of windows I have to do the better!! MORE IS BETTER.. although my power bill is over $450 a month wonder why??
Might be the other 3 computers and one mini server i have..
ok i need to get back to really working to pay the stupid electric bill

Alright - here is one that will blow everything you have seen away.
It's not mine, but its pretty crazy.. Used for controlling 50 wow characters at once.
