i have used pingdevice, I feel it's too fast and probably does a crappy job submitt to all these 28 search engines.

Right now i use senuke's pingler, it very slow and got me great results..

5000 urls will take about 24 hours....

Getting server errors when i try and ping. Is there another similar service to use?

i'm now using pingfarm.c0m. But it can onlu ping 500 links at one time.
