no, it doesn't work since last 2 weeks I think. So you can use other free services available outhere suchas pingfarm or bulkping.
Bulkping can only ping max 500 links. Pingfarm will automate the pinging after 500 links.

I doesn't "only" ping 500 urls at a time.
It pings 500 urls per page and then goes to the next 500 in your list.
If you have 1,500 urls and you put it into PingFarm then you will ping the first 500, have a 5 second wait for PingFarm to load the next 500, then it pings 501 - 1,000, and repeats the steps until all of your urls are pinged.
You can ping as many urls as you want. Not just 500
