How important is money to you?

@OP: You need counseling not money. Anyone whose priority in life is being a millionaire needs help. Serious help.

@ everyone else who's arguing about money buying happiness. Y'all sound like the juveniles you probably are who have little life experience. Before you start claiming money can or will "buy" happiness, you need to define happiness.

If happiness is defined as the freedom to come and go as you please, to only answer to yourself, to be able to support yourself and your family, to buy things you enjoy, travel, dine, buy nice cars or clothes etc, than yeah, money can buy it.

However, if you're a miserable human being, without money who seems to be lonely and unhappy with himself and life in general like the op seems to be, you're just going to be rich and miserable with gobs of money.

The world has been filled with millionaires or billionaires who were miserably lonely people.
The name Howard Hughes comes to mind.
Or maybe Elvis Presley
Or Kurt Cobain

Happiness has a different definition to everyone.
To me, happiness means financial security, having the ability to do whatever I want, whenever I want, not being tied down to a 9-5, being well nourished, having fancy, luxury items/cars.

I'm sure most of the people on this forum, most of the people in this world would agree with me.

However the way your looking at this thread is you think happiness consists of family, friends, relationships, etc.
Well I have all that great stuff too - and it's a whole different topic than financial stability.

But if you don't agree with what I said above, and don't like fancy things, being healthy, being free, etc. You can be happy with your friends on the $1.25 transit bus, I'll be happy with my friends in my Ferrari.

My biggest concern with money is to stay grounded. If you make your first million, will you still be 'hungry' and work hard? This is important for me, is it like cheating in a video game? where theres no more 'challenge' and it just becomes boring? But i also dont want to be obsessed with money and always wanting to have more

At my current age, money is on the top of my priorities, above love or health. Hope I will have enough money when I need to be loved by one whom I love. However, I believe you are who you are. With or without money, you are going to be that awesome, exciting person or that miserable excuse for a living, etc.

Money for me has no real importance in my life. It is just the vehicle for me to allow me to do the things I want to do, and need to get done in the future. Money, if you are talking about currency, literally is worthless valueless paper that is backed by nothing. It really is just paper. Simple as that. Gold and silver is a whole other story...

To me money is just future security. I could care less about the huge house on the beach or the fleet of cars etc. All of my IM work is based around being able to enjoy financial independance and my retirement.

I couldn't agree more. I truly do not care about having ten cars and five vacation houses. That stuff has no importance to me at all. It is all just material nonsense. And, yes, money to me also is future security, especially with the situation the entire world is going to be faced with in the next couple years. Just simply achieve financial security so you can properly secure your place in the world, make the correct moves, and get ready for what is about to happen.

Sure are some dim bulbs here on bhw. A lot of you don't know shit about money and never handled or risked and invested large amounts, don't know how to get capital, don't know how to leverage assets and don't know anything about finance.

Yes and no. Yes because you have people like Mark Zuckerberg, co founder of facebook, who started his site out of his dorm room in college. He probably had none or very little intentions on getting extremely rich (which he now is) because he supposedly currently lives in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment and drives some sort of old car.

No because you also have people like Warren Buffet who are basically money junkies and are pretty much addicted to money. He still to this day acquires more assets and continues to make mad more money when he basically already had an endless amount of money five years ago.

i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that just because you see people that have both money and happiness, doesn't necessarily mean that the money caused the happiness. it could just be a 3rd less visible factor that's causing both of them, like having your shit together and being a well-adjusted person, for example.

I know for a fact that money doesn't equal happiness. Having said that, right now I know money would make me extremely happy. Once I get money and become jaded about it, then I'll worry about those problems later. For now however, my goals are set.

For me, the order is like this:

1. Family
2. Money
3. Social life (its difficult to have a good social life unless you have money to splurge on drinks and stuff)
4. Work-life balance - I see no point ion earning money if I work 7 days a week and have no life
5. Spirituality - Some amount of meditation and yoga always helps in keeping your mind at peace.
