Does Content Freshness Weigh More in AI Search?

Is anyone updating old content purely to stay visible for AI citation, and how often is "often enough"?

for fast moving topics, quarterly or even monthly checks make sense; evergreen content can often be reviewed every 6–12 months, with updates whenever new data apper.

I do not think that I will prefer to have updates simply becuz one wants to stay current. for me, it make more sense to update any information only if there are change.

Absolutely freshness is becoming increasingly important in AI search. Instead of just updating the date adding genuinely new and useful information is much more effective.

I don't think freshness should be measured just by the last modified date.
For example, if a restaurant keeps changing the printed date at the bottom of its menu every month, that doesn't make the menu new unless the actual prices or food items have changed.

Personally, I update content based on demand and a change in trend. This isn't a move to stay current. It's what is required. Also incorporating helpful/useful content whether new or old is key as this will keep me memorable

Yes, we’ve been updating older pages but only when it is required, and it has helped keep some older pages visible in both search and AI citations.

The key is meaningful updates, changing a date just to look fresh is mostly pointless.

Yeah, agreed, query-based freshness makes more sense than a fixed schedule. Some topics genuinely shift fast; without tracking those changes, you're just stuck in a loop reposting outdated info.

Good breakdown, especially the quarterly vs 6–12 month split based on topic volatility. That's basically the practical version of what @KoD- said: tie the update frequency to how fast the underlying facts actually move, not a calendar.

I don't think a full rewrite is usually needed. Small tweaks or additions often work fine, since it's rarely the entire topic that's outdated, just specific facts, numbers, or examples within it.

That's true; updating based on demand and real trend shifts makes more sense than doing it on autopilot.

I would focus more on keeping the content accurate and useful than updating it just for the sake of being fresh.
