It used to work really well. Nowadays? You have to give it a try. From my experience it was always a hit and miss. Sometimes I had this boost, sometimes I had struggles to index the content.

expired domains still work but google is way stricter with them now. if you just buy strong backlinks with zero niche relevance it usually gets ghosted or slapped instantly as a resurrected spam site. you don't strictly have to rebuild the exact old urls but matching the topical relevance is basically mandatory now. i've seen plenty of domains actually hurt projects because they had hidden penalty history before dropping so unless you really know how to vet them properly it is usually safer to just start fresh and build clean long term.

expired domains are definitely not to be dismissed yet. the value, if there is any at all, lies in the history nd topical rellevance of the domain nd not in its metrics. a good backlink profile will come in handy, but if there is no topical connection, it will not last long.

expired imo domain do hold some worth but all the low hanging fruit is gone. I have had more succes in finding expired domain where the niche, backlink nd content purpose are aligned rather than going for DR or age.

these expired domains, I believe, do work, but the low-hanging fruit has now been picked. Imo, one should focus more on the history nd theme involved rather than solely on DR or age.
