WordPress is still great, but not the only good option now. If you want something faster and cleaner just for blogging, Ghost or even static site builders can be better depending on your setup.
 
for the level of support, plugins and documentation I think WordPress will continue dominating the market for many years ahead

At least one of the simplest. There are many alternatives but if you are planning to self-host it none are as simple as WP nowadays.

But if you want to take a turn-key solution, there are new contenders in the field like Tilda, Webflow and Duda (apart from Wix and Squarespace that are the perma runner ups).

I've tried some of the recently praised CMS like Wagtail and Payload, and despite they are cool, they are never going to get as simple as WP (and they dont have much development behind, in case you want to do some shenanigans with automations and things like that).

And if you are up for the Champions League, checkout Astro.
