The numbers you keep referencing from the Google Keyword Tool are broad based search numbers. When you say that you rank for the broad keyword phrase, you don't. Broad means that if you were trying for: big boat
and you obtained a #1 ranking, you will still only get exact amount of searches a month.
Broad results mean that the numbers Google is giving you could stand for: I want a big boat, where do I find a big boat, Big boats suck compared to little boats, purple big boats, boats are big when you have a cabin
Just because you are #1 for big boat doesn't mean you are relevant for the other terms.
In order to verify the amount of impressions you are getting you need to add your sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools, add the needed metatag code and track your site there. If you truly are ranking #1+ for keywords you'll see exactly what is going on and your CTR rate of each ranking.
You need to change your meta description tag which is what people read under the blue link in the organic listings. The title should be appropriate and speak to the searcher and the description meta should have call to action and have keywords associated the solve a problem or provide info to the searcher.
As others have said above, only do research with EXACT match. Period.
