#1 in Google and No Clicks?????

The numbers you keep referencing from the Google Keyword Tool are broad based search numbers. When you say that you rank for the broad keyword phrase, you don't. Broad means that if you were trying for: big boat

and you obtained a #1 ranking, you will still only get exact amount of searches a month.

Broad results mean that the numbers Google is giving you could stand for: I want a big boat, where do I find a big boat, Big boats suck compared to little boats, purple big boats, boats are big when you have a cabin

Just because you are #1 for big boat doesn't mean you are relevant for the other terms.

In order to verify the amount of impressions you are getting you need to add your sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools, add the needed metatag code and track your site there. If you truly are ranking #1+ for keywords you'll see exactly what is going on and your CTR rate of each ranking.

You need to change your meta description tag which is what people read under the blue link in the organic listings. The title should be appropriate and speak to the searcher and the description meta should have call to action and have keywords associated the solve a problem or provide info to the searcher.

As others have said above, only do research with EXACT match. Period.

The two questions I have is what is Google actually displaying and I think the others are right in questioning how much real traffic there really is for that keyword.

The other factor too is what is your call to action once the customer gets to the site? Is the message clear once they get to the page? Are they arriving and leaving within 30 seocnds?

First part.. I dont know about real traffic just seems like I should be getting a few clicks.

Second part.. My site is very direct very clean but besides that people are even seeing it until they click on the result. I dont recall my bounce rate but its not bad. Average time spent on site is pretty high actually.

But it still boils down to no clicks to even see whats on the site.

You seemed to have confirmed my speculation.. big boat can because any variation including big boat in it such as I want a big boat. Thats what I was starting to think. With that said I guess I need to ONLY look at exact match, additionally, I do have MS but I am still in the learning phase. I have been watching a bunch of videos and trying to quickly get up to speed.

Again I am going to say that the Title and Description cant be the main problem here. Its got to be lack of impressions.

Thanks for the insight.

The other questions is what text is Google displaying during the search return? Does that make you want to click on it?

To me definitely. If you type in the product name and look at my result my title is the full product name, url looks like the main company, the description talks about the product. My second result (indented) has the name of the product line and in the description talks about the creator of the product line.

To me I could design it any better.

As a test I took a different #2 result I have and put this big teaser for the title and I waiting for G to recognize the change and we'll see if that changes clicks.

I had to do the same thing for a keyword where I was ranking well with little action. The description returned by Google provided little incentive to click and I changed it. Of course in doing so you fear that somehow you will update the Google gods when you tamper with something but no clicks doesn't get you anywhere.

This is basically what i was going to tell you. The numbers in keyword tools are already off a bit, but don't make it worse by including every possible variation of your keyword and get your hopes up (ie don't use Broad). Use exact so you know how many people type in exactly: big boat.

Also, +1 for getting MS. I use it in all my Keyword research in addition to Google's Keyword tool. I say the more tools the better, as not only will they offer slightly different search traffic data, but a variety of tools will also increase the likelihood of you finding more possible variations of your keywords.

I made that change to one of the titles.. i know what your saying though. You just hope that the google gods dont get upset but at the same time Im not getting clicks anyways so who cares.

Thanks for the info. I will continue with using exact phrase instead of broad as that is apparently the problem. I went through some of the different keywords again and now everything ads up. So that was the problem. :(

MS is a great tool I can tell and I cant wait to get good at it.
