Hey there, WP speed optimization seems complicated for sure, in fact, it consist in cleaning digital dust and switch some of the WP knobs. For starters, your hosting is essentially the foundation of your house. If you’re on cheap shared hosting, your site is likely sharing resources with 500 other sites. You can speed up this by move to faster hosting such as SiteGround, Kinsta, or Cloudways. They’re more expensive, but faster servers and built-in caching go a very long way.
Then add an caching plugin. WP Rocket is the paid option or you can try free ones like W3 Total Cache or LiteSpeed Cache. Caching captures a “snapshot” of your site so that it doesn’t refresh every single page of your site from scratch every time someone comes around. Then, minimize the bloat. Big themes (like Avada and Divi) and 50+ plugins does not a good way to start. Switch to light-weight themes such as Astra or GeneratePress and remove plugins you don’t use; each brings in code that slows down your site.
Next, install a CDN such as Cloudflare. It delivers your site from servers closer to visitors, which shortens load times. Additionally, compress with GZIP, minifyCSS and JS files. Look at your database, it gets filled with spam comments, post revisions, etc. over time. WP-Optimize is a good plugin to clean it up.
Finally, update everything on your site regularly; not just WordPress core, but themes and plugins. Speed fixes are often included in updates.
Run your site through GTmetrix or PageSpeed Insights. They’re going to scream at you about render-blocking resources or giant images, fix those first. Oh, and if you’re still on PHP 5.6, upgrade to PHP 7.4 or 8.0! It’s the cycling equivalent of trading a bicycle for a rocket.
None of this is “set and forget”, speed is a constant game. But run through these steps, and your site will feel happier. If there's anything unclear, just google it! there are tons of guides for each of the above term.
