Hi all,
Hope you are doing all well
This is white hat method for building backlinks from my experience,
These are rules to follow to build quality backlinks:

1.Website is not spam
2.Webpage is relevant to your niche, preferably the whole website
3.It must have organic traffic
4.Article that is ranking has to be ranked for good/relevant keywords
5.long tail keywords for new sites
6.Anchor keywords very important - not "click here" it has to be relevant to your article/niche
7.Diversifing anchor keywords is very important – avoid making patterns
8.Organic traffic from western countries + AUS
9.Drip feed method
10.Get some google search ads traffic, to show the money page
11.Good domain rating - not manipulated DR
12.Website should have good backlinks
13. 50/50 Do & No follow backlinks
14.Guest post and link insertions are the best backlinks
15.Use Semrush to find your webpages that have already been ranked on google on top 100 results with low difficulty keywords and build backlinks for them
so you go in top 80 then top 50 then top 20 then top 10...
16.Find backlink opportunities for websites by looking sites in your niche on semrush
17.Dont outnumber backlinks with top ranking competitors – possible penalization

5.long tail keywords for new sites
if you get a quality backlink from a quality site I don't think it matters whether the site ranks for long or short tails.

I don't know how you've come up with this rule :)

6.Anchor keywords very important - not "click here" it has to be relevant to your article/niche
true, anchors are very important in link building. But I don't agree that your anchors have to be relevant to your article or niche. Many sites are using all sorts of weird / non-relevant anchors, and they MUST do this because one of the quickest penalties google gives you is for abused anchor texts.

The best way to go about using anchors IMO is to use 5-10% exact + partial match anchors, and the other 90-95 to be a mix of naked URLs, generic anchors, or branded anchors (especially the links pointing to homepages I've heard that it's best to be at least 40-50% branded anchors)...

8.Organic traffic from western countries + AUS
never heard of this rule, but - if it's true - then it probably only applies to Western markets, I don't see how a .com.jp site, for example, that's about Anime and targets the Japanese market exclusively can be considered "bad" for link building. So yeah, this rule (if it's even real, 'cause I've never heard of it before) is situational IMO...

9.Drip feed method
yes and no. Mostly yes, but big, established websites (think Amazon, Samsung, etc) that get mentioned 1000s of times a day all over the world can safely "blast" their site with 1000s or millions of links without a worry in the world.

Of course, big brands and multi-billion companies don't need to resort to link building in order to rank in google since google outright favors big brands nowadays, but my point was that drip feeding is important mostly for fresh and small sites, once you've reached a certain threshold of authority you can get away with a lot of stuff :)

10.Get some google search ads traffic, to show the money page
once again, I can't see the correlation between google ads and link building, I don't think this is a rule...

13. 50/50 Do & No follow backlinks
not true anymore! I've seen a website with 100% DF links getting millions of visitors a day a few months ago, someone had shared a screenshot here on the forum....

I used to believe that you need to have a mix of both DF and NF links or else you'd get penalized, but apparently google have changed this rule...

14.Guest post and link insertions are the best backlinks
I would say some of the best, not necessarily the best, and definitely not the best in ALL situations....

Someone had shared at the beginning of this year (or it might have been the end of last year, I don't remember) a website that ranked in the Health & Medical industry with only forum links, which had made my jaw drop as I never thought this to be possible for 2 reasons: 1) Health / Medicine industry is ultra competitive no matter what niche you find in these fields, and 2) I always thought forum links to be garbage, generally speaking...

But after I saw that case study ranking so well with only forum links (and they weren't even many, I think it had 60 links or so, and nothing else) I have changed my opinion on these links :)

The trick, however, is for the links to be inserted into niche-specific forums, but also inside of threads that have content (replies), otherwise I don't think they amount for too much...

Also, PBN links are also very good, I would say even better than guest posts and link insertions in certain cases (for tough niches / keywords mostly)

17.Dont outnumber backlinks with top ranking competitors – possible penalization
this one I don't understand. Care to explain what you mean?

These are more like short tips than rules i have to accept that.
I see with your replies that i can learn a lot from you, so i will come with my replies:

Can you explain these a little bit more, what are abused anchor texts (same anchor keywords??)? And can you tell us more how not to get penalized by google?
once again, I can't see the correlation between google ads and link building, I don't think this is a rule...
This is a little bit naive i think, i have written this because i thought that if that webpage that i want to build backlink has no traffic and even more important organic traffic and gets a backlink, google will think that you have paid to get that backlink.
Also, PBN links are also very good, I would say even better than guest posts and link insertions in certain cases (for tough niches / keywords mostly)
What is the difference with good PBN backlink from the one that is highly likely that will penalize you?

For example if Nordstorm is ranking number 3 with one backlink which is not unlikely nowadays when google favors big companies, forget about outranking them with 100 backlinks on your webpage - you will get penalized

I agree with you!

When i worked as link builder at one of the top digital marketing agencies in the world we built backlinks from european countries, USA, AUS and not sites from Philippines, Pakistan, India.... and if the company was operating in one specific region for example UAE or UK we also got backlinks only from that region.

I’d tweak a few things based on my own link-building experience. For point 13, the nofollow/******** ratio doesn’t need to be exactly 50/50 - natural link profiles tend to skew towards more nofollow, especially for newer sites

Thank you for this information, I read it all, took notes and I think it is very valuable

yes, that's what I meant: don't use the same exact and partial match anchors too many times, these are the most dangerous ones that can trigger penalty the fastest

This is a little bit naive i think, i have written this because i thought that if that webpage that i want to build backlink has no traffic and even more important organic traffic and gets a backlink, google will think that you have paid to get that backlink.
that's how I think google views things, yes.

But to be fair, I don't think you'll always get penalized if you get links to pages that have no traffic, it's just that I've always been a paranoid SEO (:p), a lot of times I would choose extra safety (even though I did see that my SEO had worked), as I hoped that in being extra safe I would foolproof myself against future google updates (naive from me, I know, as google never cared about white hat guys...)

Anyway, it's good practice to build / buy links to pages that already have traffic, just as a precautionary measure, but I don't think that google will penalize you for this...

What is the difference with good PBN backlink from the one that is highly likely that will penalize you?
links that are highly likely to penalize you come from sites that google doesn't like / trust, which can be many types of sites, but - with regards to PBN links - it's usually sites that are low quality both in terms of content and site design, but which are also considered link farms (ie. sites that exists only to sell links, you can spot link farms if you check how many DF OBLs they have on their pages, if every single article that these websites have links out to several different (affiliate / blog usually) sites they're link farms so google is going to penalize you at some point if they haven't done it already)...

Preferably, you want PBN links only from sites that are either legit (money) sites like yours, or are as close to money sites as possible. I know that many good SEO will say that this is not what PBNs were meant to be (and they would be right, Splishsplash for example - who, by the way, is WAY more experienced and better SEO than me - had said this) but I disagree with them because SEO had changed a lot, and sometimes (as in the case of PBNs) has evolved, which means that PBNs need to evolve too or else they won't work as initially. This is the nature of the game, which is why I think that PBNs that are just money sites is the new safe way of owning PBNs nowadays...

So, if you get PBN links from sites that are link farms or low quality sites there's a big chance you'll be penalized. But quality PBNs (with quality content, site and author credentials, good site design, low OBLs both on the homepage and in articles, etc) can boost up the rankings for competitive keywords like crazy, they're one of the top link types in the market today...

For example if Nordstorm is ranking number 3 with one backlink which is not unlikely nowadays when google favors big companies, forget about outranking them with 100 backlinks on your webpage - you will get penalized
I see what you mean...

But I don't agree that you'll get penalized, you might not outrank them still (because of their authority and trust with google) but penalized you won't be, it's just that you'll have wasted your resources on something that doesn't work :)

PS: sorry for the late reply, I was out of city for 2 days

This post shows me that some people have absolutely no idea of what they are doing and teach other people with their half-knowledge.

Hi Deleted member 1879596

Thank you for sharing these valuable insights on building quality backlinks using white-hat methods. Your comprehensive list provides a solid foundation for anyone looking to improve their website’s SEO in a sustainable way.

I particularly appreciate the emphasis on:

  • Relevance and organic traffic (points 2, 3, and 8): Ensuring that backlinks come from niche-relevant sites with organic traffic is a game-changer for long-term results.
  • Anchor text strategy (points 6 and 7): Diversifying anchor keywords while keeping them relevant helps maintain a natural link profile, which is crucial for avoiding penalties.
  • Using tools like SEMrush (points 15 and 16): Targeting low-difficulty keywords and analyzing competitors' backlink strategies can provide a strategic edge.
Your mention of a 50/50 Do-follow and No-follow ratio (point 13) highlights the importance of balance in backlink building. It’s a reminder that SEO is as much about quality as it is about quantity.

Thanks again for sharing these actionable tips. I’m sure they’ll be incredibly useful to the community!
