Hey guys, quick question for the seo vets:

If you have an EMD (exact match domain), should the kw you're targeting repeat on the slug of the url?

example:

1. http://pumblernyc.com/emergency-plumber-nyc

OR

2. http://pumblernyc.com/emergency

Which one would you use and why?

both options should work, I've not heard of sites being penalized for this.

But I don't like either option, because it already says NYC in your domain name, so you don't have to repeat it in the URL slug as both google and the people will know you're operating in NYC (unless - of course - you operate in multiple locations, but in that case choosing a domain name with NYC in it is kind of weird)

Anyway, I would personally use plumbernyc.com/emergency-plumber but that's me :)

I’m with @tazarbm on this one.

Keeping your URL clean and simple is usually better for 'user experience'.

That said, after doing some solid keyword research and depending on your goals, you might want to add an extra word to make it a bit more specific.

For example, you could go with something like:
plumbernyc.com/emergency-plumber-assistance
or emergency-plumber-team
or emergency-plumber-services

Or, words before 'emergency':
plumbernyc.com/affordable-emergency-plumber
or reliable-emergency-plumber
or best-emergency-plumber
or local-emergency-plumber

I haven’t done keyword research, so I’m just giving you an idea.

You could also try options like 'near me' if you are more 'local', or if it fits your target.

For example, you could go with something like:
plumbernyc.com/emergency-plumber-assistance
that's actually a good idea because - without looking into this - I dare predict that "emergency plumber assistance" is actually something that people type into google and in this way he kills 2 birds with 1 stone :)

Good thinking!
