My website’s pages are indexed (they show up when I Google “site:[domain]”), but the pages don’t rank for queries of the pages’ exact titles (without quotation marks). If I search the titles surrounded in quotation marks, my pages are the only ones that show up, which means that no one else used these titles/headlines.
How important are exact matches to the Google algorithm? Is it supposed to be really hard to rank even for exact matches? I was under the (probably wrong) impression that it wouldn’t be very difficult to show up on page #1 for a search of a unique long phrase that only your page has the exact match for.
