Udemy Course Earnings Journey - Fresh Start

I was hesitating to publish a course i created 1 year ago.

This thread motivated me to click the publish button now.

Hey BHW Community,

I’ve always wanted to do a course and see if it is a good stream of passive income. I’ve held it off for years as it takes time to build a good course.

But yesterday I decided…. screw it, let's make a quick course, put it on Udemy and see what happens. The plan is to post an update each day or couple of days to keep the community posted on progress.

Here is a breakdown so far…

DAY 1:
Time Spent: 5 Hours
Expenses: $0
Income: $0
Released Courses: 0

Actions: Day one was all about getting things moving. First I started by deciding on my Niche, once I got my niche, I did some research to see the competitions. There is alot of videos in the niche selected, so to battle that, I created a Niche, in a Niche…thats some inception level stuff.

The mini-niche only had 2 videos on the platform so I took that as a good entry point.

I put together the course details breaking down the course overview, lectures, and descriptions. Once I had done all that I was left with 20 lectures.

Next I started putting together the content, this is going to be a short course so I started smashing out videos. I managed to do 16/20 of the videos on the first day.

After finishing and uploading those videos, I called it a day and turned the computer off.

DAY 2:

Time Spent: 3 Hours
Expenses: $0
Income: $0
Released Courses: 1

Day 2 which is today, I needed to focus on finishing the last 4 videos and getting all written/images content completed.

I started with finishing the videos. That took the majority of the 3 hours for today, then I went through the content and created a nice thumbnail image.

I went to submit the course but needed to complete verification, this took a couple of minutes and approved by them a couple minutes afterwards. After verification I submitted the course successfully.

As of right now the course is in review, this can take between 1-2 working days.

—----------------------

Summary:
Journey Days: 2
Total Time Spent: 8 Hours
Total Expenses: $0
Total Income: $0
Released Courses: 1 (in review)
Total Course Length: 1 Hour, 20 Minutes

Hopefully the course get's approved quickly and I'll then have an update for everyone tomorrow.

IMPORTANT RULE: Do not ask for my niche or industry, or basically any questions that are just you trying to figure out the niche. You don’t need to know the niche, find your own.
Great to read your story and waiting for your next episode. I don't think any course in Udemy is free. Please advise

Almost like you made $18.73 per hour then which is decent

keep going
Btw what's your niche?
what is your strategy on udemy

Shit man, this is really impressive and encouraging. I've been holding off on making courses to focus on client work, but I think I'll take the plunge this summer when I have some free time again.

Thanks for sharing, I honestly had no idea how quick and easy something like this could be set up!

P.S. → Hard agree on the face & name lending credibility as well

What do you work on ?

I'm a freelance copywriter, though I guess at this point I've become more of a jack-of-all-trades marketer.

Basically, I help businesses get customers through SEO, hook customers through Web Design & Ad Copy, and earn from + nurture customers through Email/SMS/Social and CRM funnels. I also do marketing strategy, which is just putting all of what I just said together into big-picture mode.

I'm the type who would go insane doing a regular 9-5, so freelancing just made sense and I've loved it from the start.

Gonna start working on my own Udemy courses, plus some stuff on LearnDesk since they cold emailed me to promote their service.

I'd love to chat with you and learn any insights or info you picked up while making and promoting your course. I think I'll also put some updates on this forum as things develop, so long as things don't get too busy haha.
