Hi! I want to create a simple one-page (or just a few) affiliate page rating/reviewing tools etc that pay an affiliate commission (one time or monthly)
But that's not the point, the point is that I don't know If I should buy one domain or a few, look at the example below:
top10,com/best-VPNs top10,com/best-proxies
or it could be like this:
top10proxies,com top10vpns,com

As you can see both have pros and cons as the first ones will be cheaper (one domain) and SEO will be better with one site, but the second example shows that it looks better suited, personalized, and dedicated for its purpose, so help me decide.

You can buy 1 domain and create and use subdomains as per the various niches that you will be affiliate marketing for.
You can create multiple subdomains on your main domain.
Example : petstore.yourwebsite.com : ‘petstore’ is the subdomain, ‘yourwebsite’ is the primary domain and ‘.com’ is the top level domain (TLD). You can use any text as your subdomain.

Thanks, I didn't know about that!

Go with one domain, much easier for your SEO. Don´t do multiple domains or subdomains, it will cost you a lot more to get them ranked, even the subdomains route, since subdomains counts as separate domains in Googles eyes SEO wise.

I would go with multiple domains because I believe it is better not to keep all your eggs in one basket :anyway:

yesterday I saw an interesting website. I never have seen such a site structure before.
It's a seo agency website /marketing.

So they have multiple segments and categories. But they were very creative.
having one domain name -their main site has a .com domain, and they have different content segments, like about news, dogital marketing, affiliate, seo...but with multiple domains like this:

I use my name Markus as example:
the main menu looks like this: hub- news- blog- tv click on it goes to the separate domain with their topics (categories)
and all separate domains all linked in the footer too+ th ecategories of each page, also domain .news showing the categories of the site .news in the footer, but linked to all other separate domains.

markus.com = main site
markus.hub
markus.news
markus.blog
markus.tv (they have selfhost videos and podcasts)

to have good niche/keyword organization so :
each separate domain has multiple categories "under menu link topics" all categories/topics are niche related.

markus.hub= here are guides about different topics
markus.news= digital marketing and IT news (blogging format)
markus.blog= blogging about different topics who have to do with the others
markus.tv = here are selfhost podcasts and videos

so each topic on each separate domain has a category page (they use tags) they have 3-4 topics (categories) on each domain
It's fascinating never have seen such a structure before.

I asked the owner via email and got fast and freindly response yesterday, he said he was first scary of setting up this structure, and he is happy to have success with, ranking for multiple keywords, and when your domain name has become known within time on the web, so when you type in google; markus or markus blog, google shows all other domains listed not only two. I think thi smethod is calling seo Dopmain diversity + topic categories.......

Today I will analyze it little bit deeper, type in markus.blog to see if google is showing multiple serp listings of their website topics two or more, category pages or tagged posts?

This is a very creative way to build you site deep and get it spread out on the web multiple times.
Yes thi smethod costs more money, you need 4-5 different webhostings, but you can start with cheap as $5-8 monthly for each domain, with more traffic scale up your webhositng plan.

His method punishes all lies that claim multiple domains are bad for seo, negative for ranking, you get google ban, blablablbalba....
None of that

Sop you can go this route or the other way building 2 category pages google will showing them, and building another similar domain name domain similar content with keyword cannibalization so you get multiple listings on google first spot like the big boys doing it; Zillo, Hearstmedia and all of them....

Happy Sunday !

Old concept, works well if you have a lot of time and money.
Old concept ? He? I must living behind the moon.....o_O hehehehe
What is in your eyes new concept to gain multiple seo visibility? Category pages I guess.....
category pages works well but google is showing only two of them in the serps.
The strategy I mention above , you will gain way more google serp visibility spreading.....so google is whing more pages form you....

Deep thinking on sunday my friend.....;):smirk:o_O
Ok, yes some sort of old concept, in the past many done this with subdomains.

Problem will be to find a good low cost podcast and video hosting (selfhost)

You don´t need any new concept, his strategy is great if you have a lot of time and money to rank all the sites. I´ve been in the website business for almost 30 years soon, and seen a lot of stuff, often concepts come back in cycles when a new generation is starting out.

You are 30 years in website business, you have my full respect. Gratulation !!! Yes many things happenend the last 30 years on the web.
I wonder why the most seo agencies and on youtube too, telling you this;
multiple domains are bad for seo, harm your seo, harm you rankings, double content harm your rankings (which is not so truth see Hearstmedia) you get google ban and all sort of this .....uffffff

Downside of these methods is you must have a known name /brand name out in the web, so when people type in markus or markus blog, all the other pages showing up.
Example bloomberg when you not type in bloomberg in google you will not see multiple pages from the serps.

Another interesting insight view:

Look how many domains the Bloomberg site has, what do you think they are doing with?
Yep, buying domains with variants in name, mispelling, with keyword variants and boooom.- redirect them to your main site - here: bloomberg.com.

You will gain this extra traffic form visitors who using bloomberg with keywords and mispelled words.
But I'm wonder how these news sites making millions of $$$ with adsense every year, when most people who have a big site and 100.000 visitors in a month only making $900/ month?

They make special contracts with google?

Absolutely, and also you can register a domain name which would more generalized but still pertinent with the subdomains (affiliated products) you intend to create (to sell).
You can even think of some kind of wording that would sound as phrases or affirmations.

For example:

Your TLD = bestforyou.com (took out of nowhere, should be taken but, there aren't just .com right) can make
seo.bestforyou.com
webhosting.bestforyou.com
weightloss.bestforyou.com
thesecret.bestforyou.com
anythingis.bestforyou.com
getthepoint.bestforyou.com

Have fun, because this is very simple, easy to manage-and remember for clients-and rankable, and, well, fun.

Sub-domains = different domains in eyes of Google.

Don't go the subdomain route (i.e: subdomain.domain.com).

If you are just starting out just start with one domain (i.e.: www. domain.com).

Easier for seo and maintenance.

Moreover, imho I'd say if one wants to engage in such relatively exhaustive work and spendings to get one's site ranking well, one should go better invest in INBOUND Marketing methodology. Nowadays, this is the MOST powerful 'SEO marketing' technique that can be implemented. Only, it's also still a well guarded secret. Also, it's mostly much expensive to implement as it involves content creation AND distribution at somewhat large scale. Now, content creation costs should be dramatically reduced with the advent of AI. And, once well implemented it's impossible to lose traffic overnight, in the contrary, again if well done, traffic should keep growing on a pace over the year, by just maintaining the original campaign. No more, no less.
