Google Update - May 27th 2022 - What I Have Noticed

In the last Google update, I have noticed that backlinks played a major role in increasing or maintaining a website rankings. Websites with only ON PAGE SEO deranked while websites with ON PAGE SEO as well as OFF PAGE SEO retained or improved their rankings.

Even I noticed the same, all my rankings went down that didn't had any backlinks. And all other website with low quality backlinks started ranking above me.

another update? LOL

I lost keywords and position on SERP for all three websites on the same day, i.e 31st of June. 2 sites are somewhat of similar niche but one is completely different. I don't understand what I did wrong. I'm in a terrible position and earning nothing. Can anyone tell me what could be the reason behind it?

I can only suggest to try and find some blog posts or youtube videos about the update, and what kind of websites were hit the most to see what you can do to recover. As for "Why" nobody really knows.

We all know it hit affiliate sites the most, but many informational sites are hit as well. For example, my main site was hit and now I earn only a third from that site compared to before the update. So you're not alone in this. I also am not sure what caused it, but leaning towards Google punishing multi-niche sites. If you're a multi-niche, all I can say is increase your topical authority by writing more. I've also added an author box on posts on my main site, but I'm not sure if that will do anything as I'm still losing snippets like crazy.

I doubt it's only backlinks. All my projects was hit hard even through i've spend a decent money on links for each of these projects

I lost 90% of traffic overnight. Out of 3, only one was money-making site. And now I don't earn even 10% of what I used to. It's so upsetting that I can't explain in words.

Just Google being Google. An endless shitshow. Over-optimization, nothing else. Their algorithm was perfect from 2014-to 2017, but they ruined it. Back then you could create a high-quality website with awesome content and you would know that if you have done everything right, you will climb up the rankings.

It's mindblowing how a company can just destroy their own product that much.

I was/am completely confused by this Update. Like a month or so, before the Update I redirected my Website to a new Domain, so it is even more difficult for me to figure out what is happening.

What I have noticed while the Update was rolled out:

• I lost all position 0 Snippets
• 50% of Keywords are gone (I miss you all so much)
• Answered questions in the SERPs are replaced by other Websites but not all of them
• The SERPs itself are a complete mess.
• Websites from different Countrys wich are not even written in my language are on the first page
• Big Websites wich have nothing to do with my Topic are on Page 1
• And like in the US pages like Quora Pinterest and other Crap are ranking now on Page 1 of Google

What I noticed after the update was completely rolled out:

• Featured Snippets are coming back but not all of them yet. Maybe it takes a bit more time
• Keywords are still going down
• Nothing changed for answered Questions in the SERPs
• I had in the past like 2 or 3 Google Discovery spikes for like 1 or 2 days
• Now I have 19 articles in Discovery which are making a bit over 50% of my actual traffic and I really don’t like it because I don’t know much about Google Discovery and how it will end up in the Future
• One big Website linked with different Anchors to some Articles of my site and even a big Competitor of mine did. He is 10 years in this niche and I am 2 years, but I beat him very often without backlinks and he has approximately 3.5x more traffic than me (I don’tget his Intention for the link)
• The SERPs are still Crap

Overall I am like 60%-70% down in Traffic, but I think I can recover. I do what I did the past months/years with little changes and see how it works out.

If the SERPs after this month or maybe 30 days don’t change than i will adapt and Google can rank my new crap Content.

Btw. it is not an Affiliate Site and I don’t have Ads on it. It is an 100% informative Website like Wikipedia or Fandom.

It is a hobby but it is anyways nice to see when the site grows and also hurts when something like this happens.

But if you want to be the best - you have to beat the best.

I was working on a new client site in earlier April 2022. Most of the keywords and articles got indexed almost 1-2 weeks later and averaged about the 1st or 2nd page of SERP.
Only on-page SEO was done. Not much off-page was done.

Towards the end of May till early June, I noticed a drastic drop and losses of keywords (about 15~20) from the SERP. Somewhat depressing, but it makes me more motivated to do better.
Fast-forwarding to date, some of my keywords came back almost instantly (about 5 to 10) on the second week of June (right after they announced the end of the core update).

I hope it is a good sign. Out of all the sites that I'm managing, only one was affected lol.
