[Question] Where to get a free SSL cert, other than Cloudflare?

Hello BHW,

I have been wondering,

• Is there a place that gives out free SSL other than Cloudflare?
• And if there is one, is it better than Cloudflare for a humble blogger like me?
• To my knowledge Cloudflare is only 3 months long, is there a free option after that?

I have no beef with Cloudflare. As I am new to this I just try to ask things before committing to them.

if you don’t have any specific task or goal, then just choose Cloudflare, it has been tested for years

If I'm not mistaken, then you will have access to 2 domains for a year of free maintenance, during which time you can find something else for yourself or buy it there

i get mine from the domain seller (usually porkbun, 8 bucks a .dom, but there are lots of good ones), they renew it if i renew the domain. most domain sellers will give it to you for free.

Your hosting should give you a free Lets Encrypt SSL.

Edit: Cloudflare SSL is good and it is not limited to 3 months. It gets auto-renewed. So, you can go with Lets Encrypt or Cloudflare.

not sure that's allowed since it comes very close to shilling. but you can google "porkbun" and it will come up. their hostings arent very good from what i heard. another one i use is host-stage, for hosting and domains.
host-stage has a promotion where they give you a domain with their shared hosting, even monthly plans (that domain includes a SSL as well). so while they aren't the easiest to use, they are quite cheap I think.

You can stick with Cloudflare.

Most SSL certificates come with a preset validity. Cloudflare uses multiple providers to issue their certificate. And this certificate is valid for 3 months.

Once the 3 months expire, the system will automatically query for certificate renewal. And as long as your domain still points to Cloudflare, a new certificate will be issued valid for another 3 months. This cycle will keep on continuing.

If you go outside of Cloudflare and your current web host does not issue you a free SSL, your best bet is to go with LetsEncrypt or ZeroSSL.

I always get my certificates from sslforfree.com it only lasts 3 months, but it's 100% free and setup is easy and smooth
