Google Update - May 27th 2022 - What I Have Noticed

Hey all,

I have a theory based on my site and other sites in my niche that dropped, that I would like to confirm with you guys. For everyone whose site has dropped, were you:

1. Using keywords from People Also Ask (PAA) in your content?
2. How many PAA keywords do you use for a 1000 word article?
3. Does your final article have too many questions in headings (H2/H3/H4)
4. If you look at your final article, does it look like a FAQ-style article?

My theory is that to combat the rise of PAA and/or AI generated sites, the algo now has some sort of a threshold for the number of PAA keywords you can have, and whoever is hit is somehow exceeding this threshold.

Of course, these are completely unsubstantiated claims, but it would be great if we can rule this out.

There's something to this theory. While I'm not using PAA, I do use something similar.
1. No, but I do use many keywords.
2. I don't use PAA, but I use at least 20 keywords per article. Once I'm finished, probably even more.
3. Not all, but some of them have 20 subheadings total, many have 10-15
4. Many of them do, but not all. However, even those that don't look like an FAQ, have dropped. Only 2-3 posts haven't dropped and I'm trying to determine why that is so.

So my thinking is, if the algo has this threshold of how many headings your post should have, what about my posts that are genuinely like a proper guide? Yes, with a lot of headings, but these subheadings follow natural reading pattern and often describe a process of what users would want to know. It's useful, it's concise, it's correct and unique, and I think users should like it. Plus, there are some posts that are affiliate lists, not many but a few. So why would these drop?

While I'm no expert, below is my answer:

Yes, some times Google releases updates to fix issues caused by the previous update.

Another thing is, if your site is lacking in one of the areas the update was critical of, you might want to fix that.

There's leaked "ranking factors" stuff by google on the www. It's kinda like a "list" of things you could try. Still they don't really go by their own ranking factors, they basically randomize their algos so you can't predict.

Telling them the "site was fixed" means getting indexed again and waiting for the new algo to kick in. It's basically worthless, as the penalties are designed to set you back months at a time.

I hope this clears doubts that this update hit PAA sites, in fact they increased in rankings.

Its been days of changing updates on different terms. For the keyword that I always use to check if there is an update, it seems to look the best it ever was.

There's actually no guarantee that anything would work exactly. As time goes, guys who have multiple sites and experienced both positive and negative outcomes will share their observations from there you can learn.

But right now, I'd recommend you don't do any drastic change on your site as it's believed that updates take 2 weeks to fully rollout

Thank you... I went from (Italy have less people... To 1600 impressions/day to 450/day... Without doing nothing....

Many of my websites focused on technology informational keywords had the same result. 50% trafffic drop!! Hope this corrects... as people saying there's a lot of crap results ranking, that makes me thing that might be a correction. But in the other hand.... looks like this is gonna stay as is!

From what i've seen, i got outranked on many #1-3 keywords by youtube videos or forums (which is very interesting because in another google update last year i outranked both forums/youtube videos). I think google is just f&cking around with us.

Google just shuffles the serps to screw us all over and make us buy Ads.

In truth, it is impossible to pick up any exact patterns. Most sites with unique content written by a native speaker have crashed. Some sites with generated content have risen surprisingly.
Google is completely random. It is best not to focus on one site, but to work on many projects at once.

Amazing quality content doesn't always tick all the boxes, and poor quality content sometimes ticks more boxes than it should.

It's the boxes people should focus on, rather than how content was written, word count, keywords and Htags.

Boxes? Overlapping venn diagrams of entities and their relationships.

This update was about refining how google understands content, not some specific aspect of how people write content.
