I have a beginner-friendly keyword research method for low-authority websites. You can also get some high-volume keywords of competitor websites if you have moderate-authority website.
I'll walk you through my step-by-step method for finding extremely low-competition keywords within just a few mins.
STEP-1: Find low-competition keywords using tools like Ahrefs, traditional keyword research strategies, or find your own ranking keywords in GSC.
You need to collect some low-competition keywords to find your weak competitors. I'll then show you a strategy to steal their best keywords.
STEP-2: Find your weak-competitors.
Search for the keywords on Google one at a time. Find the competitor sites that are niche-relevant and not popular. I ignore media sites, parasites, authority sites, etc. You can also find sites with a keyword in domain name as they are niche-relevant. If you don't want to manually do all this work, you can install Moz bar with a free Moz account to quickly find low-DA sites.
STEP-3: Scrape keywords from your weak-competitors
I'm using Ubersuggest for this process as this is a free method. If you have access to premium tools like Semrush or Ahrefs, you can use them to get even more results. The following URL is for USA and English results. You can change location and language if you want.
You should replace "example.com" part with your competitor domain name and visit the URL.
This will show you the list of ranking keywords. Collect the keywords for all your competitors. Please keep in mind that ubersuggest allows only 3 free daily searches. There are some ways to bypass this limit (I'm not mentioning it here as they may fix it and ruin this method).
STEP-4: Search for these keywords on Google to find the competitors of your weak competitors
Repeat steps 2 & 3 using the keywords collected in step-3 to get even more keywords.
STEP-5: Publish content
Now you have a lot of extremely low-competition keywords. You should write content to serve user intent. You're lucky if you find orphaned keywords which don't have relevant content in SERPs. You can easily rank for these keywords if you write anything sensible and optimize titles.
Results:
I implemented this method in Jan for a new website without any authority. Initially I found 10-15 keywords and most of them ranked within top 10 pages when I published content. One keyword instantly ranked in top-3 with just 200-300 words content. You can check the Feb month's results below:
This page kept growing due to high CTR as my page title matches user intent. You can check Mar month's results below:
This keyword also has highest clicks in my GSC. All kws in the screenshot are related to this single page:
With a little improvement in authority, several other keywords in 3-10 SERPs can be brought to top. I didn't post any content in the site after Jan due to my other commitments. I found several other low-competition keywords using this method which I couldn't find through regular keyword research strategies.
