Is backlinking between my sites safe?

Hello Everyone

I currently have two affiliate sites connected under the same Google search console account.

I'm thinking about starting to back-link from my big "site #1" to "site #2".

If I do that, knowing that they are both under the same google account, will google see that as bad practice or some kind of PBN? (I'm always looking for clean white-hat work to avoid any penalization)

If it was another person's site, would you have linked to it? If the answer is yes, you don't have much to worry about.

This used to be a no-no long ago but these days I think Google just considers them as internal links with not much weight.

Big guys are doing it all the time. Patel is linking everything.

Since they are in the same account, they are already linked.

I would personally keep them completely separate.

Yes, I would not put them in a single GSC and not "interlink".

Well, it's kind of to late for that, it's been around 6 months that they've been linked under the same account. I can't go back now, can I ?

And if I were to create a new site in a different google search console account, would I need to use any of those shady sneaky tactitcs, like VPN, different IP, etc....?

Too late for GSC but you can still not do the linking.

Judging by other responses, it's pointless from SEO perspective.

It will not harm your sites, it is safe many people do this, but I don't think it's a good idea if I have a choice.

As long as you are linking strategically and are adding value with your links, you should be fine.

Pay close attention to the value portion of what I said above.

A lot of people link to their sites driven by keyword mentions.

This may have worked in the past, but if you truly want to run a true, whitehat SEO operation, you have to be mindful and deliberate with your linking strategy.

Every link going in and going out to your website must add value.
