Look like it's time for another update...
UPDATE #8
What's been going on ?
I've been away those last two months. My last update dates back to March, and the site almost remained untouched since that day.
Let's take a look at what happened.
1- Wordcount
I've only wrote 1 article during those 2 months. Yeah, I know...
I was tired to write for ghosts and I wasn't happy with the site I created in terms of UX and UI : too much text, bad design and a lot of small problems that have accumulated.
So, the wordcount is almost the same as the last one. Here it is :
2 - Google Search Console
To be brutally honest with you, when I've start to take a break from this site, I literally dropped it.
That means no update, no writing, and no care about Analytics and Amazon sells.
I had to take a few moments for myself, to see something else.
So I started to re built my personal site wich is now like a brand new and beautiful presentation of myself and what I care about in life. I just give it a major design shift (working on colors, aspect of the CTA and some other things like that).
Working on another project motivated me to re log into my Amazon Affiliate website.
So after almost two months, here are the stats :
I added the red bar to let you see when I left my site. I've launched the site the 1st of February this year.
I consistently wrote, built, erase, re built and re wrote all that site during two months.. and saw no results.
There was barely one people a day coming on the site and if I trust GA, he stayed no more that 10 seconds (and there's a chance that some days, GA counted my visits on my own site...)
I am really happy to see that my work ... started to work haha
It took time, but you can see the curves getting higher and higher. Now, the site gets a steady 5 clicks a day and at least 100 impressions.
Let's take a quick look about the pages that generates the most clicks.
The page that brings me the most users don't have that much impressions (101 and 216). With a quick calculation, I have more than 10% CTR on those two ones.
In general, the CTR drop to 6,9%, wich is pretty good I think.
On this screenshot, we can see that my position isn't that high. If I only check the requests that I'm on the top of Google's SERP, it shows that it don't brings me any click or impressions.
But I'm fortunate enough, the longest articles I've wrote are mostly on the first page of Google and sometimes in the Google's questions (rich snippet).
Let's see what it give on Amazon Associate's.
3 - Amazon Affiliate
As you can see, the site isn't optimized at all. In total, I've got 5 sells during those last 2 months. And it brought me almost 2$. Not enough to pay the domain hosting.
What can I conclude about that ?
The site is growing slowly.
I wasn't expecting results like those when I opened the Search console again.
It gets more and more traffic each day but I think it will stagnate quick if I don't work on it from now.
That was the good things.
But if I look more critically, the site doesn't convert. It brings some people on it, but it doesn't lead to any sell.
The site is meh, really ugly. It's not thought to facilitate reader's experience.
It's time to get back to work !
What am I gonna do ?
1 - First of all, the site needs to be designed.
I've left that part at the beginning to concentrate on producing content. I've done my best to try something that could be at least, less ugly. But it works quite good.
So, before all the work, I'll have to make it User friendly and welcoming.
2 - Continue to produce articles and products reviews.
I've only reached 45K words and barely 40K published words. It's honest but it's not enough. In my wildest dreams, the site could grow to 100K before the end of the year, and I will be happy.
I have to take into account that I got a new job wich begin next week. My working sessions might be reduced a lot, so I have to organize myself to work as efficiently as i can.
3 - Work on sales.
With only 2$ on Amazon's sales, my dreams of being as rich as Uncle Scrooge is getting away.
I need to get other affiliations programs. I know there is others, I just have to take the time to get into it.
I need to work on my CTA too. If the site don't converts, it must be because something's not right. That's why this is the third step of my plan. If the site design change the way people clicks on my affiliate links and buy, I'll not have to work on CTA. If not, I'll have to understand what's the problem and change it later.

It's been long (again) since my last update here.
What's going on ?
I've been busy for months with my new work. Plus, I scattered with another SEO project, wich I've just decided to report until the completion of my first site.
So, I haven't made much progress on articles since last update, but this doesn't mean that I didn't progress !
The first good point is that I've hit the 50k words mark with two another articles produced in september.
The second one, is that I started to run the netlinking part. Now, I have 3 referring domains (and 1 forum) and almost 65 backlinks.
And to finish, I've added two more affiliates programs, wich are way better and way more trustful than Amazon for my niche. I've saw that some people can't buy some products I promote because there's no stock on Amazon. So I've changed the affiliates links to redirect to the new affiliate programs wich are full of stock.
What's bad then ? And why did this need and update ?
My last post was in May 2021, and things didn't change that much. I got some clicks and some good impressions but the CTR is low and I don't get much sells.
And that hurts a bit. Because I've design the site completly since last update. So, that could means two things :
- It could mean that my niche isn't that good as I thought : people just don't buy that much those products and thus, they don't buy on my site neither.
- But it could also means that my site isn't trustful enough for them to purchase.
In both cases, I could take action to make the difference.
- If my niche isn't that good, I could make this site a guest post one and receive a bit of money, and maybe sell it later.
- If my site don't inspire trust, I could work on it to make people purchase.
For now, I don't know what is the right answer... I'm going to check in the next days the affiliate results on the platforms, to see if people buy when they're on Amazon by example.
So what am I gonna do ?
1 - Continue to build some BL : I got some nice positions on Google. But I have far more 2, 3 and 4 position than 1. I need to improve that to make my clicks get wild.
2 - Continue to write articles : because that's the point
3 - Try to understand what's going on with affiliates clicks on the site.

Last update is about two months old, so I guess it's time for an update.
Where am I ?
Since the last message, the site grew a bit.
And for the first time, my first goal is reached : reach 1000 clicks a month
And this is only on 28 days, so I'm close to 1400 clics per month.
On the last three months, here what it looks like :
We can see that the link building strategy is worth it. I started building BL in mid october and the trafic start to grow at the end of the month.
I didn't build that much though : 1 guest post, all written by myself, 3 or 4 forums BL with context and answer the question that was asked, no spam. That's all I've done.
Since then, I didn't touch anything on the site or build anymore BL.
What about the commissions ?
Last time I posted on this thread, I was questionning myself : is my site inspire enough trust to visitors for them to buy products after reading the blog ? Is the niche bad ?
I still can't answer that. Commissions are still low for the moment, despite the trafic growth :
This is on three month, so we could compare to the trafic stats.
I've made 37€ with Amazon. It's really not much. But it pays the hosting.
On Woodbrass and Thomann, nothing.
That sounds crazy when I wrote it, but that's true. I've added buttons to buy on those other merchants, and I got no sales on those..
I know I need to work on the monetization, but for now, it's not something I want to focus on. My focus is on another site (my second journey).

The last 3 months were quite good. The numbers are quite good : 5100 clicks and 107k impressions.
The stats for last 28 days are pretty good too with a total of 1,6k clicks and 32,7k impressions.
Just as a reminder, I haven't post anything on this site since january.

What I've done so ?
I've made couple of things during those last months. Didn't wrote any article but I've made two major changes :
- The big thing is that I've completely change the design of the site. It's basically nothing but it gave me confidence about the future websites I'll be creating. The UX is much more cool than before and I've added things that could drive a bit more sales.
- The second thing : I've put a mailchimp form on the homepage to get emails and send offers to subscribers. With a period of 1 month, I've managed to only get 3 subscribers on more than 2500 views. So I've decided to add a lead magnet and it didn't worked much more. Then I've removed the form and stick to my simple homepage.
And now ?
I don't know what to do with this site.
I guess it didn't reached its fully potential but I don't wanna waste more time on it. I don't get much money from that and there's a little voice in my head that tells me to keep that site alive, to keep pushing. I have some data in my GSC I know I can use to find keywords to work and boost the trafic of the site in case I'd get up one morning and decide to work on it again.
But not now.
You might know I've tried to launch another site and document it here on BHW.

I tweet 1 time per week now (1 thread everyday or every 2 days the first 3 months) about personnal development, SEO and entrepreneurship. I'm not an expert in those domains but I've some experience and I wanted to share what I leaned. I guess it worked haha
But I don't know what to do with this audience. The newsletter is just curated links on Twitter, Linkedin and on the web about the topics I mentioned above.
Apart from that, I've launched a rank and rent site on a local niche. The site is almost fully ready. When it'll be ready, I'll try to make it rank and then rent it to a pro for about 500€ per month.
If it works, I'll go all in on this method.
Don't know what to do if doesn't work. All I want to do is to make 2000€ per month on internet. If I reach 500€ / month, it'll be an immense step.

Was wondering how a EU site would do with amazon, so it's nice to see an update even tho quite late and the results are probably not what u expected.
Also nice to hear u started following on Twitter with a substack newsletter to go with that. That can be very profitable. May I ask if u have made any money whatsoever with that audience? Is it a primarily English audience?

The problem isn't Amazon I guess. It's just that the site don't convert that much. The traffic isn't really high though..
Yeah, the results aren't what I've expected, but it's still a nice story to share.
By a pure coincidence, I've found articles ideas for this site today while doing research for my 9-5. It's a niche that is really close to the one I've built the site for and I guess the two topics can work well together so i'll try to give a fair shot in the next weeks. Doing what I know best : 1500 words articles written by me. 5 to begin, maybe more to come. I'll see if the traffic grow or not.
About the newsletter and the Twitter audience, it's all in french. English isn't a language I'm very comfortable with (even if I could read and write, my articles have more impact in french). But it could be a great challenge to write one in english
