Biggest thing that keeps you poor #1

Those services were not around when I grew up so I have no need for them. When I was young there were only 3 TV channels.

I purchased vinyl or a tape for music and hired a move from the video hire shop.

I’ve not tried all that stuff so don’t know what I’m missing. I do have a phone on sub but don’t have the latest fancy stuff because I don’t need it.
At 100 again damn.

I dont want to argue for the sake of arguing but i truly believe monthly services are a KILLER.
Think about when you were a little boy 20 years ago.
When you need to buy a fridge, TV, washer, car it was something to own for the next 10-20 years.
People in the 50s didnt even buy new fridges. It was a simple ice box with...whatevers on the back...made to be repaired again and again.
Then things started to go out of hand. Before you purchased something ONCE and you were done.
Now it was a 10-20$ a month, 200$ a year, 2000$ per 10 years.

My friend showed me his new mercedes CLA 2021 which he leases for 200$ a month.
Frankly i got jealous, having a 20y german car where it rattles and the trunk cover falls off.
what was the point of me buying it for 2000$ and then spenidng another 5000$ over 3 years repairing and painting it?
He was paying 200$ and driving a 2021 mercedes with leather and RGB.

But here's the TRICK. They only allow him a certain mileage per month, or he has to pay extra. He can just drive close to work, and on the mall on the weekends. While I used my car to drive to another town 2-3 times a week and to the mountains on the weekends.
For me to lease the mercedes they would probably charge me 500$ a month for driving too much.
And here is where the scam is revealed. It sounds cheap....but you are severely limited. You pay 200$ to brag that you drive a 2021 mercedes that you barely drive around the neighborhood so the johnesses can seethe. Thats just a "yea i drive a 2021 mercedes" tax.
The moment you really need to haul ass and drive places, your lease quickly becomes 500$ amonth and you get financially raped.

With the paid off car...whatever you replace lasts ages. You can drive as much as you want. no lease.
With the removable HDD whatever movie and podcasts you put...its yours.

A friend of mine leases a brand new audi worth $80k for $500 in eastern Europe. He can drive 1000s of miles and got free gas from his boss.
He makes $2.5k (3 times the average wage) on top of that. What do you think?

And i do believe things like a phone bill are the biggest vampires on your savings.
Dont get me wrong. I do try to SCALE as i reached my salary limit for the moment.
- i run crypto bots (which make more than my salary per month usually)
- I started a femdom porn blog for donations (muh side gig lol)
And the fact of the matter is...when i buy a new apartment and start using crypto profits to pay the monthly loan payment...its gonna be 480$ per month.
1. The crypto market can enter a 6 month bear market at any time and my profits can be cut to zero.
2. My job can fire me at any time and i can stay without any incoming money for 6 months before i give up and start working at the supermarket

All this time the phone company has been charging me 18$ per month (americans have like 30-40$ plans) if i accepted a plan.
And realistically i call someone probably 2 times per month when im not dealing with my dentist or car mechanic. I get to call family 2 times per month.
Should i pay 18$ every month for 2 five minute calls? I obviously dont need internet outside WIFI spots.

Lets say i had a phone bill for 2 years. So ive paid 432$. A can of food or a really healthy sandwich made by me lets say costs 2$
I could have used those money to eat 216 sandwiches. Thats more of half a year surviving on a healthy sandwich per day.

In a situation where you are without a job and struggling...in reality you can last 8 months with food (rent aside) just if you didnt pay your shitty phone bill.

You have been brainwashed not to VALUE MONEY because inflation has made everything expensive. Its nice to make more money...but you need to start valuing what they can buy you and stop wasting them on netflix.

Biggest things keeping people poor are either an underestimation of what is possible or a fear of success.

i think thats probably the floor limit when you can afford to waste money. When you make 2500 and waste 500 in a brand new car lease.
Still not worth it as he doesnt even get to KEEP the car at the end. And at the end of the day a car is a car. Every other bozo on the street is driving a bmw or mercedes too, its not like you stick out by driving a BENTLEY. You pay 500$ a month to be "one of the thousands of boys around town driving a new german car".

If you saved those 500$ a month for 2 years and invested them, or just bought food....imagine you can retire 2 years early...or just take a 2 years vacation from working.
and like i said, an average apartment loan costs 480$. You can be paying off a new apartment instead of revving around town with the audi.

I've forgotten to mention he is addicted to cocaine like his boss is. But they only snort on weekends, so it's okay.

Is OP trying to out compete Hetty Green?
Looks like he is! The idea of meeting this woman and talking with her about money makes me laugh.
She used to work as a child like many of us did. We have a lot of common with her.

She had so much money, but her son blew it all away when she's passed.

For me it’s my laziness + living in a big city where you can order every food at any time..

i don’t entirely agree. I think if you try too hard to save money all the time then you get the wrong mindset about money and you start visualising your clients or leads as perceiving money the same way that you are, this anchors down your pricing.

Go out and spend big, live how the clients that you want to get are living and then you start attracting those lucrative clients to you, who have the opposite mindset that you are describing.

After all, if you are an SEO, do you want a client who hates signing up to recurring subscriptions? I don’t think so.

Jast playing devils advocate with an alternative viewpoint; but a legit one imho.

im lazy too, working from home. Im usually overworked and tired. Last time i tried making sandwiches for work i cut my finger so bad with a ceramic knife i had to go cry to the surgeon who also gave me a free penis inspection (not even fucking kidding still confused, who would molest a 30y man basically)
So i got used to ordering takeout too. Then i learned that i dont only pay for delivery, they also mark up every food. You should have seen how mad i was.

I agree, We have nothing that is a "subscription" excluding phone with data which is how i have internet. We have no wifi, no house phone, no TV services just free TV which we never have time to watch. Our costs are tiny, thus we are not slaves to jobs to earn income to keep up. I have a university degree that's paid off. We live on one income currently in Australia. Both under age 35 and own our home (tiny bit of mortgage left).

I see others in our town struggling because of all these subscriptions like Americans have which only started here in the last 5 years (Netflix only came here 6 ish years ago). As well as buying $$ cars that only dwindle in value after day 1. Or spending lots of "stuff" that only clutter their homes and sheds.

Tools for the trade sure. But over time these subscriptions for fun add up, and will only be more in time by looks of things trending. This subscription trend will start to eat away pay checks more and more with more services headed this direction. I'd rather invest that money and reap the rewards later and do things that are free for entertainment.

Though for money making strategy, I'm in for making subscription based income

It feels like you guys are arguing whether if making more or spending less is more important.
In fact, both are equally important.

If you’re spending uncontrollably, even if you start making a lot, your expenses will grow proportionatelly.

This is the balanced response among all of them. Amazing thread. Different mentality different approach.

oh mobile phone/internet connection. that is a lot of expense.

I wonder what is the OP's take on software and SAAS models.
I think he might go retarded when he realizes half the world of software must be paid on monthly basis.
You can even rent SEO links on monthly basis.
I would like to inform you, you can do it too and create a winning strategy.

Maybe for big companies, paying monthly for accounting software...real corporate stuff sure.
but at the end of the day my company and my ex company paying for google package or dropbox...just so they can sync some files.
The syncing of files was the only option that was worth a monthly payment, and we would have been better off with a server in the office.
the retardation was the ex company paying FORTICLIENT like 2000$ a month for a server with a hardware firewall.
and that piece of shit program we needed 2 weeks to set it up.
Imagine paying a huge monthly tax for a hardware firewall device. Thats like me putting PEERBLOCK on a raspberry PI and charging you monthly.
And btw peerblock did switch to some block lists that became a monthly subscription.

At the end of the day microsoft suite and google suite were both garbage. using excel, word, "teams", calendar should not be a monthly subscription just because they sync files.

As for phone plans. They tried calling my grandfather 10 times trying to hook him up with a 14$ plan. And his pension is like 300$. Imagine trying to JORDAN BELFORD a 76y old man who doesnt even use his phone.

I'm not even corporate and I find spinner tools, keyword trackers, campaign planners and article research tools worth the sub for SEO.
I think GeForce Now makes a lot of sense too.
I agree with paying for docs and excel is stupid. Also being sold open-source software as a service in a pretty package is nonsense.

I disagree.

Biggest thing that keeps you poor is trying your best to pay less for everything that you can, when your actual goal should be to earn more.
