Is phpBB is still a good forum solution in 2021?

I mean, is it still getting updated regularly? Does it have anything new these days? I tried it in 2016, and it's been 5 years.

So would you recommend it in 2021?

I had a wrestling forum and honestly, xenforo was the best. The biggest issue is not the software but getting people to the community. If you want to use Phpbb you can and always switch over when you have enough traffic but I feel xenforo is the standard in the forum software.

Depends on what your needs are and what kind of features you would like to have on your forum.
If you would like a fancier design and a lot more features, you should look for newer and much faster platforms that might be slightly expensive but will be worth the extra price.

PHPbb CAN be good.. if you MOD the heck out of it

PhpBB requires you to spend 24x7 on top of it or it'll get spammed and destroyed to death.

I am going to check out Xenforo also. I just started using PHPBB to built a site with a forum integrated but using the forum as the login / register handler.

No question about that.

Discourse is cool too but it requires specific hosting server whereas Xenforo can be hosted anywhere.
