How do I increase My Google ranking for free?

ranking without any type of links is really hard nowadays,
each google update keeps hitting low authority websites with poor or low link profile and you'll keep seeing more and more pages with poor content showing up in the serps

quality content is nothing more than like a myth, you can rank for most of the keywords (exclude some niches) with readable content that can be written by you as a foreign member or any of the cheap writers out there (make sure to not get scammed with spun content tho :D),
google algo is an algorithm and it has nothing really to do with the quality of content, so even with such content and on-page optimisation you'll be ranking
not convinced? check any of these used pdf methods, search for some movie name or game hack or you'll find pdf with 1k word +- with pure spam content
but the trick here that such poor content will not work with actual blogs as it will cause a higher SEO bounce rate causing ranking to lose
Still not convinced? post a thread in bhw and ask how many people lost their rankings using "quality content" only to rank,
i've seen some members complaining about losing ranks for aged websites with hundreds of quality content

if you want to actually rank without any links, you'll have to find easy to rank keywords that they will be with low search volume most of the time
if you want a better chance to actually rank for better keywords you'll have to invest in some backlinks or create them your own way, use niche relevant forums, free guest posts, create some manual web 2.0s...

generally, more expensive articles are indeed better quality, but - believe it or not - that's not always the case. I remember 8-9 years ago, a very well known and popular dude in a specific IM industry whose mailing list I was on (I won't say his name) had emailed a "promotion" at some point in which he offered 500 words articles for $50 apiece.

And the articles he offered were all in the same field he was activating in (internet marketing), and I compared his sample articles with the articles I was getting from a writing service that I was using regularly back then and there has been absolutely no difference, which is obvious considering the broad, non-technical niche that he was writing articles in. I mean, had those article been very industry / technical-industry oriented like how lasers focus the light, or how an industrial boring machine does its internal workings I could have understood the need for research and for being accurate in your writing. But an article on how ezines or safelists work to cost $50.... yeah, no thanks! I could write my own articles with the plenty of information available on these topics everywhere at that time

So anyway, the point is that theoretically, more expensive articles are generally better, but not always. And there are quite a few writers on this forum that can produce the same quality that you are paying $20 on, for around $10, sometimes less than that... especially if you order in bulk and they offer discounts for bulk orders.

The only time you will want to pay more is for articles that are at least 2k words long and which come with tables, stats, etc. If an authority site in your target niche accepts guests posts that must be researched in-depth and be structured in a particular way, then yeah, paying $100 or more for such a post makes sense.
Indeed. We can't even know what kind of servicec the seller provides - expensive service with low quality or cheap with better quality. That's why - reviews are needed for sellers :)
